So I got my hands on a Randall Diavlo 5 watt head and 10"/30 watt matching cab. The amp is great, the speaker only so-so. Muddy, murky, very little high end clarity or presence.
I also have several Hotone amps, as well as the Orange 15 watt Jim Root Terror to use with this.
I was looking to replace the 10" speaker. The Eminence Red Fang RC10 is rated at 50 watts.
Guitar Warehouse has their 10" Green Beret rated at 25 watts.

I like the sound of the Eminence, but will the higher wattage be an issue?
Or even though the amps put out anywhere from 1-15 watts, will the 50 watt Red Fang be powered sufficiently?
Hope this makes sense. I am not too picky on getting "thee" speaker. Just something better and cost effective.
    Thanks!

You need to see the SPL rating of each speaker, that's what you use to compare loudness. Now on the other hand the 50w speaker may not break up enough until driven harder. I have a few WGS speakers and are happy with them.

Not worried about loud. But the amps are all low wattage...1, 5, 15 watts. Will they drive the 50W Eminence...what do I need to look for?

What mozz is getting at is the efficiency or sensitivity of the speaker (spl=sound pressure level).
If your 50w speaker has a sensivity rating of 94 dB or higher, I would guess a 5 watt amp would make you happy driving it.
The sensivity = the spl (measured in dB) driven by 1 watt of power and measured at 1 meter distance.

I have a 100 watt 10" speaker loaded in a 15 watt Peavey Rage 158 amp and it works for me. The amp acts somewhat like its running with an attenuator. I can open it up all the way in a small room without the ear piercing volume.

    Fixed it for ya.
100.4 dB should make you happy with 5 watts. :)

^ Very true. On the other hand, back in the 70's i blew up many a lower powered speaker with a 50w amp. Boy did they sound good while they lasted.

My 50 watt Eminence RF 10C arrived today...now I need to decide if I keep the Randall Diavlo 5 watt or Blackstar 1 watt. They are "different" but also too similar to justify keeping both.
Thanks for all the advice, will keep posted on eventual, final outcome.

Got the Eminence RF 10C in the cab...wow! The tones are clearer, crisper....and I will not say creamy. Definitely a high end punch rather than the muffled, mud with the stock Randall speaker.
Harkens back to the day when I took the stock speakers out of my dad's '76 Olds Toronado and put in those ol' Jensen 6x9.
Blue Oyster Cult never sounded so good!
    Thanks for the help all!

Just for the hell of it I wired my Peavey Rage 158 directly to the twin scorpions in my Renown 400. That's 15 watts into 200W speakers and it sounds awesome. So much so I've been using that setup instead of the Renown.
