I leave my main amp at church, and haven't been happy with the sounds from my practice amp at home, so picked up this little gem today. I've been hearing good things about these, so when a used one popped up on Craigslist for a good price I nabbed it. The picture makes it look big, but it is really quite tiny for having a 12" speaker... less than 16" tall, and only 25lbs.

I'm still tinkering with it to find the sounds I want, but so far I really like it. Once you figure out the controls, it is very straightforward and easy to use. As small as it is it really packs a punch, but with selectable watts (1/2, 25,and 50) you can get tones you want at very low volumes. I'm a Fender guy, and this amp really excels at Marshallesque tones, but I'm finding plenty that pleases me. It has a nice selection of Boss effects built in, and computer connectivity to download and tweak others. I really like that it has an acoustic amp model in its lineup.

Nice score! This is actually the one item on my want list too that I'm just waiting for the right deal, used ones are few and far between.

Have you ever used the acoustic setting on one before?

I tried it out briefly. It's nice an clean and natural sounding, but pretty bright. I need to roll the treble way back to get the sound I like. I think if you use the software you can put a graphic equalizer in as a patch. I haven't messed with the software yet. I doubt that I will.

I am so late to the Katana party. They literally just blipped on my radar this past week when I was bedridden with pneumonia.

(Where has my attention been this past year?)

I’m absolutely stunned by the quality and versatility of each Katana model at their individual price points. I could sell my used Excelsior, buy a new Katana 50 and still pocket grocery money for a week.

Ugh. So tempted to pull the trigger on a K50.

In the meantime, I did acquire a Katana Mini yesterday for $80 based on boredom and YouTube demos alone. (Hint: I saved ~$80 in gas money because I haven’t driven to work in a week.)

But the K50 has a 12” speaker and dials also down to 1/2W... soooooooo tempting!

    Congrats on your NAD!

Yeah, doesn’t seem to be many moving through the used market these days. Either that or they move too quickly—you have to be quick to pounce like @stormin1155.

I’m going to be on the hunt for a K50 through Black Friday. Until then, I’ll probably stalk sites like MF to see if they offer up any open box/returns at a decent price.

So much amp for so little money, even at retail pricing. Ultimately, if I can’t score a bargain in November, it will end up being a Christmas present.

I can’t justify not owning one.

That's kind of where I'm at,too. They've raised the street price of the 50 to $219 recently too. I had one in my cart at SamAsh for $179 for a while back when they were going for $199, stupid me I didn't buy it and the deal expired. A Black Friday coupon would be sweet.

Been thinking about picking up a 50 watt myself. A friend of mine got the 100 watt and it has replaced his gigging amp(s) which were all high end tube amps. The YouTube demos I've seen/heard are very encouraging and the price for the 50 watt is just silly. I love my tubes but this thing might be the perfect gig amp. Not having to worry about a dead tube alone is worth $200.00 for me.

Son of a...now I have to have a Katana 50 after watching vids that also feature the acoustic capabilities. Dang it. This has taken my Mustang GT GAS and transferred it to the Katana.

Just to clarify... what I've heard about the "acoustic" setting is that it's voiced to accept an acoustic guitars input and is not an acoustic simulator, per say. Could be wrong but do your homework before buying.

Heard that too—the Acoustic channel is an ultra-clean channel meant for acoustic guitars, which is fine by me!

Correct. I have the K50. The acoustic channel is a 'flattened' clean channel for use with an acoustic guitar.

Worth noting that there is also a separate acoustic simulator 'pedal' effect onboard that can be accessed via the software that can be used to make your electric sound like an acoustic.

Super congrats on your amp. I've been trying to sell my Katana 100. I really like it. It's just not seeing any use.
