    Hey fellas,

I've been looking to scoop up an Agile Harm 1 for a good while, and now that Kurt's got the LPB version available I might just pull the trigger!

I've gotten to the point where I don't like modding axes as much as I used to due to it becoming a monster money pit for me in the past, which is why I'm curious -- for those who've had/played them, what do you guys think of the stock Agile toaster pickups?

I've scoured the 'Net for sound clips/opinions and haven't found much recent info, besides some old forum posts where some say they're actually mini-hums with a toaster cover (Kurt's description says they're single coils, who knows!).

Anyone have any sound clips/opinions about their sound? Does anyone know if they're ceramic/Alnico, overwound, etc?

    Many thanks in advance!

And just to add to the communal GAS...

I had those pups in my Harm III 12-string, and in my opinion, they sounded turrible.

You'll probably want to replace them.

Kurt insisted they were single-coils when I asked him (after receiving the guitar), but I highly doubt it.

I miss having a Harm. I actually liked the toaster pickups and I may pick up one of these blue ones. The pickups are ceramic HBs. Here's whats under the covers:

    Good to know!

And this confirms the OP's notion about the cost of these guitars escalating as you consider mods, etc.

    To the $325 add:
    Case: $60
    Shipping: $30
    Parts: $150
Labor: $120 (don't kill me here...yes, I take my guitars to a tech for mods; yes bench time is expensive in Seattle)
    Rounded Total: $700.

This isn't an absolute deal-breaker, but it puts the cost of a Harm in perspective for me and helps to quell the GAS...for now.

And I'm seriously not being a grump about any of this.

    1. I realize many peeps here can get satisfactory mod results for less money.

    2. I do think that Agiles modded modestly make for absolutely wonderful instruments. But as I've just completed some costly upgrade mods to my existing fleet of Agiles, I'm going to pass on the Harm for now and pull the trigger at some point in the future.

Yeah, I have one that had the toaster pickups and as you saw above, they are just mini humbuckers, but bad mini humbuckers. I thought they sounded like shit. I put some GFS NYlll' s in place of those, and it was definetly a good and low cost improvement.

It's funny that recently Rondo had told me they would not be carrying the Harm models any more......and well.....here you go. One shows up. Go figure. I don't know why they do that. Now, they need to do some with regular humbuckers and with P-90s.

    Do those routes fit P90s?

Yes. Mini hum = P-90 soapbar where routes are concerned.

Based on my favorable experience with Buddha PUPs, I'd suggest just having Tim build some toasters. That would especially be true for me b/c I already have semi-hollow guitars with HBs and P90s. If I were to buy a Harm I'd want it to capture that jangly Rick tone.

Fellas I very much appreciate your insights -- it's looking like I'll pass on this particular Harm and wait until he gets one with humbuckers or P90s in stock.

Those are definitely some kinda mini-hums, Kurt's crazy about 'em being single coils -- thanks for posting the pics and clearing that up for me (y)!

Well said...that has effectively quelled the GAS for me as well.

It was really between the Harm, and a buddy's used Fender Starcaster semi-hollow, and since I totally dig the reissue WRHB pickups in it I think that's the route I'm gonna take.

I never heard them, but remember a big thread back in the 2008 - 2009 time period that a lot of Harm players chimed in on. Most disliked the toasters.

Me personally, I dislike the Ricky toasters. My favorite Ricky pup for jangle is the button top single coils.

Saw this one appear on Reverb earlier this afternoon but was too busy with work to try and find the thread where a few others here were looking for them too to post the link . I was about to do the same here but too late, it must have sold in all of about four hours:

    https://reverb.com/item/6750952-agile-harm-1-2010-black-2-p90-s

Boy, they go fast when they show up used. Hopefully, black/torty wasn't your thing anyhow....

You cannot go wrong with a Starcaster. I think it's one of the best guitars being produced these days.

that blue color is sexy as $hit. I think I'm going to regret not buying one of these. I've got a very nice set of mini-hums AND P90s lying around. There's really no reason for me not to buy this....
