I spent much of the afternoon noodling and riffing on my new-to-me Jet City 20W combo straight into the amp. Strat, Wildkat, Custom 24 and not a bad tone (or a clean one) to be found, so it got me to thinking: what does my Peavey sound like without a dozen pedals between it and the guitar?

So I ditched the Rat, DS-1, SD-1 and the Gravy Chorus and the Cathedral reverb, leaving me with a Cry Baby, Moog Tremolo and the Korg delay/reverb. Oh, and a looper, but that doesn't count.

I had to tweak the Lead channel a bit and that took maybe 30 seconds to dial in.

And voila! Everything I play in four pedals and I was reminded of why I keep that heavy as hell Classic 50 around.

Ain't no money to be had selling the pedals that are now sitting on the shelf, plus I'm a guitar player so my tastes and my ears can be fickle, so I'll keep them for now.

    Simplifying can be fun!

Yes it can. Today, after a long time using a ton of pedals in front of a cheaper amp, I broke out my Deluxe Reverb and ran my Tele straight in.

    Ah...

All I've ever seemed to really need are reverb, chorus and delay. But I can even do without chorus and delay... Just don't take away the verb, man!

Love a nice amp with a reverb tank like my AC15C1.

The Peavey has spring reverb but I'm not too fond of it, which is why I ended up with that enormous Korg pedal when Sweetwater was clearing them out, and two more reverbs besides. That pedal, despite the fact it's like four pedals wide, stays. Tremolo is my go to modulation, and the Moog version is pretty versatile. The wah and the looper stayed because nothing else does what they do.

Solid work. I have a tuner and a dirt. Everything else just got in the way. I think that I must have bought/sold over 200 pedals in my day.

you can loose most of your pedals if you have a sweet amp and don't need a bazillion different tones. I love those Classic amps btw!
