I saw this one at a pawn shop around lunchtime today. It hadn't even been put on the floor yet. A heavy duty flight case was included. The serial number look up said it's a 2002. It has some slight rust and corrosion on some of the screws, though there are no dings or gashes and the frets are in fantastic shape. There's a great one piece maple neck on this one.

Yes, I know that the bridge is six screws instead of two posts and the saddles are also Fender bent steel, which is not what's supposed to be on a 2002 MIA Standard. There's been some swapping of parts here, though everything appears high quality.

I haven't paid this much for a guitar recently. I mean, it was 10 Xs what I paid for my Squier SE. But c'mon, it's an American Standard Strat, for only $360! I've never, ever seen one that cheap.

Needs some TLC and set up work, but I can already hear that this one sounds amazing. Lots of quack on tap.

Wowzers. Maybe a Mexican body and american neck? If I recall correctly, that's what the dude from Los Lonely Boys prefers. In any case, a score is a score, and the case to boot is a double-score. Merry Christmas to you..

You mean you had to actually pay almost half of the actual street value for something? I say return it, you got taken to the cleaners.

Yeah, there's a mystery about the body. Not sure if it's alder or ash. I'm going to disassemble it tonight to see what the deal is.

    Pics to follow. :)

American necks go for about what you paid, so you are ahead regardless what body that is. Nice score!

Are people pawning their guitars for just enough to buy a box of Kraft Dinner over there? Sheeeesh, you get some incredible scores!

My suggestion would be that you rent some retail space near this "pawn shop" or maybe just rent a uhaul. Put up a sign offering full retail plus 10% cash for any guitar gear purchased at said shop. Then open a reverb shop and re-sell it all for 10% under market value. After reverb fees and shipping it appears you'd still be making out like a bandit.

Maybe 2MC owns the pawn shop?

    Bathtub body rout.
    fullsizeoutput_559.jpeg

High quality wiring and components under the pickguard.
    fullsizeoutput_558.jpeg

Pickups have been upgraded to a VANZANDT set. These sound incredible. Low output vintage 50s tone.
    fullsizeoutput_55a.jpeg

Note the absence of the "Micro-Tilt" feature.
    fullsizeoutput_55b.jpeg

Neck stamped "September 19th 2001". This makes sense, as the serial number says this is a 2002 guitar.
    fullsizeoutput_55c.jpeg

Neck pocket already has a shim, though it needs a thicker one to correct the pitch. Whoever owned this didn't know much about setting up a guitar. Not to worry, I'll have it straightened out by the end of the night.

I'm thinking the bridge and saddles are stock. Just a guess.

That is a great deal. You said the frets are good, it's all gravy beyond that. But even so, there's nothing I see but 16 years of sitting around. Congratulations on an excellent deal.
