Ok to make a long story short my mom started dating again (after being widowed for nearly 20 years). The guy is a bit of an oddball but a very nice guy, i thought i would hate him but i don't. Seems like a decent guy who went through some hardship on his end too.

Anywho... This guy has some type of furniture warehouse and for Christmas him and my mom decided to pick us out this treasure. Apparently it was between this and bar stools (and my mom convinced him this would be better for our 1 bedroom apartment). Nice old looking oil painting but JESUS is that kid creepy.

Who was the guy that used to post all of his guitars with those creepy dolls? This looks like it came from his living room.

I know exactly who you are talking about. Lived in Minneapolis if I remember correctly. Must have hailed from Wisconsin originally.

Painting in top post is not unlike some well-known 19th century ones, a certain way to depict children, I guess.

The style of the ones with the guitars gives a feel of some vague familiarity, Sold by some large furniture store chain perhaps?

Both were found to be interesting to some, and art weirdness is far from new!

Did you ever go pick some CL item and find the place creepy or full of junk?

Do you know anything about the painting? Old stuff can often have a very interesting history. That looks 18th century.

The more recent paintings look a lot like work of Margaret Keene. The story of her work, her domineering husband Walter, and the art that sold by the millions is the grist for a recent film - Big Eyes.

The older painting may be valuable if you can track down the artist. Not my cup of tea but then again, I don’t have to hang it on my wall.

The M. Keene story is something!

Someone spent some money getting a decent framing job.
