    Hey everyone-
Thought I’d take a look inside Bubba Z’s WRK300 I bought a while ago. I like it, and it sounded great.

Been working with my 3D printer at work to make bobbins to make them more Ric-ish toasters. So, uncovering what they call mini-gums, I found this:

It looks at lot like a single coil with an Alnico bar inside it. Much closer to a Ric single coil than I thought. So, ideas what it might be? Both measure 6.7k. Hmmm.. let me know what you think

These are the only pickups I've ever seen that looked similar. They're out of a Eterna by Yamaha ET112.

Is it a steel bar or is it alnico?
Hard to tell from the pic but wouldn't surprise me if its steel and theres a ceramic mag in there somewhere

Wire wrapped around a mag is the same principle as a lipstick.
A dual coil version would be similar to a firebird.

The silver bar is magnetic. I was assuming a ceramic magnet somewhere, but there isn’t one at all. I don’t want to peel it anymore because the magnet wire on one piece is soldered to the copper tape. Then, the ground wire from the bobbin is on that tape as well. Kind of cool.

I’m wondering if I should leave it be, or make a new bobbin with magnetic pieces a la toasters and use these guts in a different pickup and guitar. Hmmmmm....

That looks like a magnet underneath.

Any more pics from different angles?

Here’s a picture from the underside. And yes, the one time I was able to play it before my amp/Vamp pro went down, they sounded nice. I think I should leave them alone, but I was curious if the construction.

Quick question. When I was repackaging the copper foil tape, I think I popped off a wire. My guess is that it was the ground wire from the shielded cable to the foil tape. Would that seem right? Let me know what you think.

And yes, when I played it, they sounded pretty darn nice. I need to get this bridge back up and running and I'll try it out. I was without a way to play through my speakers (and snagging a computer setup is clunky with kids) for a while. Got that back up and running (VAmp Pro: not bad, not great). So, yeah.
