Thanks Nate, much appreciated. One interesting thing that has come out of this so far is discovering your Chinese heritage. From a couple of the seller's eBay messages to me:

"Hello there! My friend, sorry, let you have an unpleasant shopping experience, I will give you a full refund, you need give the guitar to my American brother."

"Hello! My friend, please wait a moment, my brother has not sent me an email, I will give you the shipping label and give you a full refund."

I feel weird about him giving out customer information. A name and address isn’t much, but it seems sort of slippery slope-ish.

What if he decided to let the new buyer be a source of some of the refund to the old buyer? Would he think twice about giving out PayPal addresses to other customers? He could start sloshing money around that way, similar to what he is doing with the Guitar. Just seems like slippery ground to me.

Brilliant. I love that. Maybe they should even give you each other phone number to get a review .

How are you fixed for replacement pickups? If you're interested, I have a set of gold Probuckers I was going to use. If not, no problem, I've got a Sheraton II I can throw them in...

I was going to use the stock AS820 gold covered buckers or maybe put new leads on my old gold AL2000 Floyd buckers that have been sitting in my spare parts bin forever.

    UPDATE:

I just got back but I dropped it off at the local USPS yesterday afternoon on my way out of town. The label said two-day so it should be there no later than Thursday...

Although I didn't have a say in this matter, another reason I really try to avoid my local USPS is because they're a complete bunch of incompetents. Even though I dropped the guitar off yesterday around 3pm and physically handed it to a clerk, tracking is showing only that a label was created on 7/20/19...

I was just about to let you know it had showed.

I just got the tracking number this morning and it still hadn't even showed as in transit. I guess that is why they don't call it tracking, but instead delivery confirmation...

Well, I just did a very quick and dirty setup. Added a little relief, probably .005-.008 with fretted at 17th and 1st fret. I have a pretty well calibrated eye...

I also lowered the action quite a lot and no buzzy frets thus far. We will see once it settles in.

Body is about 10 pieces pancaked with a nice looking veneer front and back that does a good job of hiding it.

Nut seems like slots are too deep, but action is still too high at 1st fret IMO. It is going to be a bear to swap out If I decide to go Graphtech or bone since they painted over the ends. I'll have to score it really well with my exacto and hope for the best.

Tuners feel so, so cheap. Gonna swap them out ASAP with some Agile Grovers. I can't tell if it is the nut, tuners or strings causing the iffy tuning stability.

Also have the original Cepheus graphite saddle bridge and gold tailpiece from my newer AS820, so that will be a quick fix for the cheap hardware.

I think it is screaming for cream plastics, so I will go through my collection to see if I have anything to match the binding, or something close.

Overall construction is about Cozart level with a bit better attention to detail from initial once over. Not bad for $160 shipped though, and I dig the design a lot.

Plays really nice after the setup, at least as nice as any SX LP style I have owned (after a half assed setup).

Just to come full circle: I finally figured it was safe to give a honest feedback on the seller. Since it was sold as new, but clearly not, I provided a neutral, since the guitar was ok after some work, but the seller was very untruthful about it. I recieved the following response this morning:

Hello! My friend, this guitar was mailed from my American brothers warehouse, is an inventory guitar. The guitar itself is worth $300. I will give you another $10. Can you change the comment?

I let him know that I knew it was bullshit and I would not sell myself like a cheap whore...
However I did so in a far, far less confrontational manner of course, but I thought that to myself as I typed it. :)

Looks like an Epiphone 'Genesis' mated with a Yamaha.

that's what I said more or less in my response, and that I knew TJ, so while I let the lie go in the past, I was not going to let it slide again...

That bologne purfling is also on my Vintage White Falcon. Normally i'd turn my head in disgust, but as it's a Gretsch knock-off i'm stoked that there's an attempt at bling on it. Trying to figure out a matching TRC.
