Caught Dinosaur Jr. for a packed show last night at The NorVA. They played an awesome set and sounded really tight. They were definitely loud, but not as painfully so as I saw them last year in D.C. at the Black Cat. Really good mix. J's sounds were sublime. Lou was getting some great grind out of his Gibson Grabber until he blew one of his amps about half way through the set. He made due with a backup, but it definitely detracted from his tone. Highlights for me were the new song "I Walk for Miles" which features a pretty heavy, almost stoner riff, and the outro solo/jam they played at the end of "Gargoyle". Incredible band.

The opening band, Cloud Nothings, was also pretty great

I saw dinosaur jr many many times since the 80s. While I still love the old stuff, I just can't get into the last couple of albums.

Regardless though, they still put on great shows and usually kick ass. Just remember to bring your ear plugs (y)

The new album is worth a listen i'd say, but i do like their more recent material (since Barlow rejoined) quite a bit

I thought Beyond (the "comeback" album they did with Lou back in the band) was terrific, the others less so.

I agree "Beyond" was good and I thought "Farm" was ok. The last two not so much. My favorite will always be "you're living all over me".

Beyond and Farm are great. The new one is pretty good too. The previous one was a bit meh...
