i’ve been half-heartedly looking at Strats for a while now, but I am a hard rock kinda guy, so single coils just don’t do it for me.

Well, I was in Toronto this week for work, popped into Cosmo Music, who were having a sale, and snagged this Strat (with Blacktop buckers) for $509 (that’s $397USD)...

Sounded like a beast through a Marshall DSL15C, a Katana 50, and an Orange OR15!

I’m off to try it through my Traynor YCS50 now.

I'm a fan of those blacktop humbuckers. They have a great hot PAF tone and split quite well.

Cool !......The Traynor has that classic rock tone too. Should be a great match.

Well, I took set the Strat and the Traynor up for a little introductory date and they got on like a house on fire! Actually, they got on more like...

    97cfce27faf787bc77ba748d04fd42e1.jpg

Those Blacktop pickups are HOT. Just what I need! The Traynor on the dirty channel with about 30% gain, fed by my TrueTone Jeckyll and Hyde overdrive (with just a little gain and a ton of volume) sounded nice and nasty.

And, @toomanycats is correct, the pickups do split fairly well.

    Update:

This guitar has become my #1. It's just so comfy to play, feels smooth and sleek and stays in tune very well. I reach for it more often than my Les Paul Traditional and rarely touch my AL-3200 anymore at all.

It just sounds bitchin' through that Traynor in a room with the guys.

All-in-all, an amazing score at $500.

If you ever open up the pickguard, can you tell me whether the pickups are BHK or BHC and whether the pots are 500k?

@golem , I don’t plan to open it any time soon, but if I do, I’ll try to remember to take note (I’m gettin’ on in years though, so who knows?).

I’ve had it since April, and my other guitars haven’t seen much action since. It’s a great guitar for me, and the price was outrageous.

I just installed some Fender locking tuners, but I can’t think of anything else I’d do to it right now.
