My Chibson Flying V arrived today. My friends, this one has exceeded my expectations. It is perfect in every way; not a flaw that I can see. I already posted pics they took at the factory and have included some more. It was not cleaned up before the pics so some styrofoam dust still on it.

Appearance wise, it is just as I ordered it. Only thing I messed up on is I should have requested a multi-ply pickguard so will have to swap that out sometime. The fit and finish is perfect with the neck perfectly snug. The neck is just right in size and the fret ends as smooth as they can be. Tuners are great with no slip. Action is low, no buzz and overall perfectly set up. Pickups are a surprise; from a twangy Tele-like sound, to rock, and a smooth jazz-like sound. Of course, the first thing I played on it was the Crazy Train intro. I will be keeping them. Also, I see no reason to swap out the electronics but will see over time. The nut seems to be well cut.

Interesting, I had a laptop shipped from the UK and it spent 10 days in customs on the east coast. This came into San Francisco and spent only one day in customs. Overall, 11 days from it leaving the factory to my front porch. This company (Starfall) was very responsive to my requests. They originally had a plain red one with gold hardware and dot inlays. I requested chrome hardware, white binding, ebony fretboard and MoP block inlays. They said that would be $20 extra; well worth it to me. Here's a few more pics.

Did you take a peek at the wood in the pickup cavities? How’s the neck thickness?

    Link to company site?

I’m surprised it made it to you with that headstock logo but, I’m thinking what with terrorists and all.
    Nice looking V.

$20 for the blocks. To me those are a must have on a V.

Shit yeah, need price and link for that one. I'd be interested if they'll delete the logo.

It's good to hear somebody happy with their China guitar purchase... I bet Ryan could make you a proper PG for it.

No, I didn't want to mess with them as it sounds great the way it's set up. The body is a three piece. The neck is very nice, for me. I haven't measured it but probably 1 11/16 or a little narrower, C shaped and seems a little thinner than my Tele's but not shredder thin.

No, shape isn't off. Pickguard is exact copy of Gibson. I like the angular, think it fits the V design.

Thanks; yeah, that's the plan on the pickguard.

Link to mine is gone now. This link should take you to AliExpress and search for Flying V guitars. My company was Starfall Guitar Co., but there's lot's of different ones. I chose them because they had very good reviews. I think with any of them, just tell them what you want and they'll make it. The advertised pic only had the logo on the head minus the "Gibson", so I mistakenly thought they gave up on adding the name. I've received some with the head blank that I requested, and others that I've requested and was promised it would be blank, and it came with logo anyway. So that part's been hit and miss for me. Doesn't bother me like some; I have no intention of misleading anyone if I ever sold one and will do something to identify it if I ever do decide to part with one.

With a custom job it took about five weeks to make mine and then 11 days to get here. I had a hard time deciding between a Silverburst, all White, and the Red. I'm not disappointed in the red. I think mine was $280-5 plus the 20-25 for upgrades, so final was $305 including shipping.

    Awesome V!

I wonder if it was made by the same factory that makes Gibsons.

As I mentioned, it plays and sounds great. Came perfectly set up with low action, no buzz, and smooth fret ends. Very playable. I really like the pickups. Reminds me of my Tele's. Can be twangy, harder, and middle position is very mellow. Sounds great with a little reverb on a surf songs, and I ran through an old Standells song (they used a Tele), Soul Man and a couple of others and it sounded great. I really couldn't be more pleased with it.

Who knows what goes on over there. Wouldn't surprise me if all factories and brands are co-mingled.
