Had a thought this morning to find a way to showcase good works and begin to archive a collection of the coolest gear ideas and mod performances. I don't want to bog this down by rules, but I think we should start with three.

    1. Your Musical Gear Project "should" be approved for entrance (nominated) by another AGF forum member, but if it is a verily clever and cool mod, you can just put it in.

    2. You are only allowed ONE "before"" pic, and ONE "after" photo to keep this thread tidy. A bit of descriptive text about the project is certainly very welcome

    3. You may certainly nominate any gear mod or original build from AGF or elsewhere.

Let's please try to keep the "Nice Work " posts to a minimum... I suggest acknowledging the posts you especially like with a "LIKE" button tick sufficient.

If on your AGF or web travels you see something extra cool you would like to post a pic here and award entrance to, by all means do so, but please one pic only, and again a link to more would be super. I'll let you guys and gals judge the best of the best. If you want to post gear mod atrocities, please create your own "Hall of Shame."

If anyone has any other suggestions to keep this thread a-rockin' please let me know...
Oh, and GET BUSY nominating your favourite projex

I wanted this guy to be first in... seems he's away - no prob, I'm entering his Killer Ant to Fire Ant renovation.

+ 1,000,000 to this as well as not quoting photo heavy posts. I hate when someone posts several photos and the next bozo quotes it just to say three or four words. First world internet problems are a bitch.

Great idea, & hopefully it will give the modding bug to some that have been hesitant to take the plunge.

Well, I was just nominated by tvvoodoo to post this little "mistake made good" project I posted awhile back, so here it goes!
First, the link to the full project here(under my original ManicMike moniker):
    http://www.aguitarforum.com/showthread.php?tid=30421

And here's a Before and After pic:

    After:

    46a6ab5e6ecbc8e3261a6238a328cc45.jpg

And I'm returning the favor by nominating...well everything that Mr. tvvoodoo has done to date, lol, but if I have to choose one, I choose: Psychocaster!! That bad boy is one awesome piece of imagination brought to life, I honestly can't stop looking at it! It's been my backround on my ipad forever, and I get nothing but comment's on it :) Awesome work and worthy of immortalization in this here HOF!

No before pic... just your basic nice playing black tuxedo "Rocker" strat which I painted white. Laid on a reverse mask of the pattern with sign vinyl. Many beers later of dremelling got me through the top white layer of pickguard into the black layer, and also carved the rest of the pattern about 1/8" into the body wood. The cracks were then all painted gloss black, the mask pulled, and clearcoating. Sounds easy, right? The backside got special treatment as well with waterslides. Post-pics, it now sports black trem and tuners, and handwounds by our own tbe275. full detailed build thread here

Extremly Fun guitar to play. Thank you ManicMike2. I nominate rmfroyds blue dress J. Cantrell tribute cause of the creative use of vinyl and well... funbags too.

Thanks for the Nom Voodoo, I appreciate it.

    Here is the original post/threadimification:

    Boring Guitar

Here is the before and after:

    6362595b142c1f8b2fa8b1159793296b.jpg

Unfortunately this guitar is not in my possession anymore. I sold it on crapslist to fund other endeavors. I am sad to say that the guy I sold it to was a part owner of one of these establishments:

    Hair on Fire

The dude I sold it to was a cross between David Lee Roth, Yngwie, and a Hobbit. The dude was extreme to the max and maxed out at about 4 1/2 feet and 5 lines of coke, pushin 50 years of age.. Truly one of a kind.

I am not sure how I feel about the guitar hanging on the fucking wall of a barber shop and not being played. My wife did encourage me and tell me that someone actually purchased it as art to hang on a wall. True. I am much like Pablomichealangafuckingtello.

I nominated the Cornfed via PM because I wasn't sure of the protocol. I did not nominate him for a specific project, I told him to choose which one he is most proud of. I figure I would make him make the difficult decisions.

    Great idea Voodoo.

TvVoodoo nominated me too. I need to dig out pics of the project he nominated and then I'll post them.

I return the favor by nominating TvVoodoo's Rangecaster. I sold him the original guitar which at the time was appropriately named "None More Black". He completely transformed it into one of the coolest Tele's I've ever seen. So, post 'er up Brad!

I'm not putting no rangecaster in until page two. No-one has to wait in turn here, I'm hoping for a fast build into a go-to thread.

Just nominate projects you like, by messaging or adding yourself to keep this ball rolling.

I have been notified by the founder of this awesome thread idea that he has nominated my Dean X Series V refinish into the GMHoF. I thank him for the honor, and I'm happy I didn't have to wait as long as Rush.

I apologize for the terrible quality of the pics. I would normally be happy to take better shots to post here, but alas - this finish no longer exists.

It was originally Dean's Braziliaburst finish. This was yet another attempt at a fabric refinish project, and I felt it turned out well. The art and insignias are all hand painted. It was a lot of work.

It was undertaken as a tribute to an American hero of WWII who happened to be my ex's grandfather. His story as a B-17 pilot was truly remarkable, and the research I did to find the photos, flight plans, and proper insignia led to two war buddies finding each other again, and a family finding some peace as they found out what happened to a member of their family who had died in a bomb run. All they had known was that he was presumed KIA. I feel very honored to help out three vets/families who had lost so much. All because I wanted to paint a guitar.

Since that time, my ex has made some terrible life choices resulting in a custody battle and a lot of bitter feelings. As such, I couldn't stand the sight of the guitar, but still wanted to play the darned thing. Last summer, I ripped the artwork off. It was cathartic. I just couldn't look at it anymore. The project had served it's purpose by helping those families.

I still own the Dean, it is a weird bluish green white relic'y thing now - just Krylon and sandpaper. I filled the neck route and stuck an SD Invader in the bridge spot. Straight volume pot, no frills, no tricks - WYSIWYG. I love the guitar, it's raw and plays great. I can post a pic of it if asked, but will otherwise respect the rules posted above.

I moved the Voodoo strap to my Squier '51, my favorite guitar. It sees much use and I highly recommend his work.

Thanks for the nod TV, great idea you have here.

Rick in PA has also nominated my initial effort at a Bottlecap Tele. This was my first foray into resin top guitar finishes and, though it has a few flaws, I think it turned out well. This is the guitar that gets the most reaction when I show it, but it also represents the least amount of actual work. Go figure. Thank you for the nomination, Rick!

I reserve the right to replace these shots with better ones soon.

It was further customized with a four way switch mod and GFS Fat Boy pups, but the neck pup has since self destructed. I then went in and changed it to Esquire wiring.

I couldn't leave well enough alone. So if you're interested, here's a peek at Bottlecap Tele MKII:

    c5f243ebc3711a904f134f02bb77e2c6.jpg

It turned out far better. It just needs a few parts.

I would nominate the guitar that was drug up and down the street then turned into a really cool strat, but can't remember who it was or where it's at. :puzzled:

TVVOODOO nominated my modded SCXD. I had this done a couple of years before Fender decided it was a good idea and did it themselves.

Everyone knows what it looked like before, so here is two pics after I changed it from a combo to a head.

TV VOODOO, I believe this is going to be the best thread ever. And I think the hall of shame would be fun also.

cornfed has nominated my lap steel build. 6ab4988be4f404aa2f4d9955e1b4e5f7.jpg
It has become a wall hanger, but was a good learning experience for building a real guitar.
