I planned on getting a 2018 Tribute later this year when my first born arrives as a commemorative "Baby Birth Year" guitar, but I saw this one on closeout at Sam Ash over the weekend and couldn't pass up the deal! I'm sure baby will understand and appreciate that I saved $400 or so (wife will, too..).

NOS 2016 Gibson 50s Tribute Les Paul. Pretty much the same guitar as the newer Tributes only with weight relief (I believe the 2018 aren't?) and a poker chip (looks weird w/o one IMHO--I know many of you like the non-poker chip look).

Very nice guitar--really reasonates, plays and feels great, love the 50s neck, 490r and 498t pickups sound great to my ears. Vintage sunburst and exposed bobbins kinda has that Slash vibe goin.

Satin finish is really a change from my Agiles. Maple top has nice woodgrain and a bit of birdseye action going on as well. No nicks/bumps/scrapes, but I can see the guitar wearing in nicely over time.

Gibson QC issues: the tailpiece and bridge seem to be set slightly higher on the bass side than the treble side. Also, the input jack needed to be tightened. I'll keep an eye on these things--the guitar is pretty well itonated, stays in tune, no dead spots, and plays very well. Not enough to bring it back for a return, but may bring it back to make sure it's set up properly/check the jack.

All in all, very happy with it especially since I grabbed it new for less than I've seen these sell used. Better than my Agiles? Eh, it has Gibson mojo, love the fatter 50s neck and satin finish, and it sounds/plays great. Over 2.5 times better, price-wise? Probably not, but it really is a nice guitar.

Came with factory sealed case candy inside the gig bag--even had a picture of the guitar on the Gibson tech's table. The salesman called over the store manager to introduce himself, shake my hand, and congratulate me on buying a "beautiful Gibson guitar." Standard practice for Gibson buyers? Desperate for and over-appreciative of a relatively high-end guitar purchase? Overjoyed to have sold a guitar that had been hanging on their wall for 2 years (inspected 5/3/2016--just over 2 years to the day!)? In any event, I thought that was a nice touch.

Beautiful! I'm having some deep feelings for a plain top and your guitar is making it worse. Too much Birdseye is a distraction, yours is just right.

I wonder if that inspector is still on the payroll or if he was one of the ones that got let go recently.

Very nice. Looks and sounds very much like my old 13 studio in matte. Is yours a nat back or black back? I sold mine to get a studio deluxe I fell in love with but I really like a matte look too. In the end my plaintop was tooo plain for me and my agile was shaming it. Your plaintop has some nice character.

Thanks all--mine is a black back. I have a thing for plaintops--really flamey is nice of course, but I like simple plaintops

Now all you need is a nice Marshall 4 x 12 to rest that beauty on! I look forward to your New Cab Day!
