New York is still number one! Of course our state taxes and 4% plus property taxes have nothing to do with it. I have 4 years and 3 weeks left.

Well, I'll be here for a little while, anyway... I haven't got the resources to achieve escape velocity just yet.

88mph. I'm sure that's how @slaveunit got out. I think I was doing 85, hence the boomerang. Need to have my flux capacitor checked.

We are on a countdown to leave NJ.
Probably 3-4 years but nothing definite right now.

For all the same reasons, and more which I will leave alone, and we just wont be able to afford to live out our senior years here.

Word is you have to literally pay an EXIT TAX to leave NJ, if you own house / property.
I thought it was only on second / vacation homes but have also heard it is on primary residence as well. Have to research it.

That pretty much sums up how NJ treats TAXPAYERS.

Congrats on the move. As for fleeing a home state, Illinois is moving up the charts with a bullet too. At least according to friends and family back there. I'll be moving back to the area eventually but it will be in southern most WI, just over the border...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's Floriduh. They can't build houses, schools, and new shopping centers fast enough in St Johns County where I live. It makes work commute traffic much more fun. Not!

Well there are nine counties here in the panhandle that got totally trashed by Hurricane Michael and have had only lip service in the way of federal assistance
that have been having a major exodus because it took out the businesses which meant no jobs. So they are closing schools because the students are gone
as their parents got jobs somewhere else, etc. Thus it is rather grim in my area. Perhaps some day some Federal assistance will flow this direction
and those nine counties will begin to recover?

Sorry to complain but it is just expressing what I see around me every day.

That’s probably one the most compelling reasons...why spend all your money paying off the bank when you could fiscally have a better life elsewhere? and CO is one of the more popular re-location destinations...not a down grade by any means. Congrats!

Its beautiful, I moved there years ago in may, and was back in ca. Before xmas. Too cold. One night coming home from work in the oil fields, I broke a chain. And had to jump out of my car as it was going over the cliff in the Rockies. Car stop about 10 ft. From edge. I looked up at it and said "I am getting the heck out of here" but man was it nice in summer.

    Congrats Ryan.

I know the feeling. NJ has a great track record of tightening the vise on residents to the point where they'd rather live in a refrigerator box in North Dakota.

Smart move for you and your family.
