Just saw this on a Black Friday email sent to me by Rondo. Its called the SX Callisto STD+ DS and will be available in time for Christmas 2019.

This has to be considered the logical heir to the fabled Agile AL-2000. It has very similar specs with an even cheaper price tag ($169.95). Some of the specs are actually superior, such as having a full 1/2" maple cap. I'm assuming it's made in China, which over the last few years has ceased to be a dirty word in the guitar world.

Rondo ain't dead yet! What say you guys?

    https://www.rondomusic.com/product10109.html

      • Single cutaway arch top body made from solid mahogany with a 1/2" maple cap

      • Canadian maple flame top

      • Set in maple neck with dual action adjustable truss rod

      • 22 jumbo frets and pearloid trapezoid inlays

      • High quality humbucker pickups help reduce hum and noise and offer superior performance by giving a thicker, fuller sound than single coils

      • Humbuckers also create a much larger magnetic field, which helps eliminate dead spots and increases overall power of the pickup

      • Two volume controls, two tone controls, plus a 3-way pickup selector switch tailor your sound

      • The angled headstock helps increase the tension of the string on the nut and therefore also helps transfer the vibrations of the string to the guitar

      • All chrome hardware (including diecast sealed tuners and a stop-bar tailpiece)

      • Stop bar tailpiece helps transfer string vibration to the body for great sound and sustain

    Measurements

      • Overall length, including the strap button: 40"

      • Scale length: 24 3/4"

      • Width at the widest point: 13"

      • Width of the neck at the nut: 1 5/8"

      • Width of the neck at the 22nd fret: 2 3/16"

      • Thickness of body at its edge: 2"

      • Thickness of body at its center: 2 1/2"

      • String spacing at the nut: 1 7/16"

      • String spacing at the bridge: 2" (3/8" string to string)

      • Space between bridge studs: 3"

      • Weight: only 9 pounds

If it walks like an AL2000, talks like an AL2000, it's an AL2000. They were always a ridiculous bargain for the money before the much cheaper, poor quality AL1900. One of the best guitars in my collection is a gorgeous AL2000 I picked-up for $100 on ebay. I replaced the nut, put CTS pots and new wiring and Gibson 57's in it. It sounds as good as any Gibson I've owned under $1500 and cost me less than $300.

IIRC it has been suggested/rumored that (some of?) the AL 2000's had maple caps, just not listed in the specs.

I could be mis-remembering or cross-interpolating things though.

If I hadn’t just sworn off set neck single cuts for neck through double cuts, I might’ve have bit on one of those. Especially a 2 P90 since that is a current hole in my arsenal. But, for less than 3 of those, I can get another AD-3200 which I already know will make me smile much more.

That is the Callisto model that I had been raving about last spring.
As you can see, I love them. Gave one of these to my brother.
These are my best sounding LPs, better with my favorite pups than same pups moved to Gibson 2018 Tribute or all my Agiles. I have ranted on about my perception of these compared to everything else I owned.
I'll shut up about it with saying, whatever woods they used in the spring summer batches, and likely these new ones too, it lends a great warm tone to my blues slanted pups. And at an average around 7.5 lbs.
However, 1/2 of my Callisto's benefited by full fret levels.

Those have mahogany necks, not maple as described...at least of the batch that existed thru spring and summer.
The other SX Callisto STD+ models are same. They were initially described on Rondo w/out Maple caps.

Below is my latest Callisto STD+ (CS) modded to a black top. I just posted a thread on it.

These guitars play and sound awesome once any needed work is done.

SX LP style guitars have always been good quality instruments just cheapo hardware and electronics short of the Agile line IMO.

It's probably only a spec that matters to me but while the product listing say 2" at the edge, I've never seen a Callisto that's more than 1 3/4" (or for that matter, any other MIC LP import other than an Epiphone). No left-handed models either...

Those are quietly tempting. The one spec I wish they would have left to pass with the AL 2000 is the 1 5/8 nut. Minor complaint of course but i'd likely spend the extra $$ for a 3xxx to get the wider nut and ebony board.

1-11/16th nut width on this one in my hands. 43mm.

Its another case of Rondo poor descriptions.

I've found the nut measurements have never been consistent.

If only he'd bring back the Callisto CUS line (White I think, Burgundy, Gold, Black, CSB). I wanted the all gold Callisto but settled for the cherry sunburst, especially when he blew them out. Blinged out headstock & all.

There is Black CUS in advanced order coming early December. And a CUS CS quilted has been lingering on Rondo left since summer wave landed.

Funny ...... I emailed Kurt about 4 weeks ago asking if any new Callisto's would be coming as I wanted to make a black top/ Neil Young project. He replied, "No I do not think so - I think what we have is all for 2019 at least."

3 weeks later the STD+DS and Black CUS are back on the Rondo new items page.

I am actually happy to have settled on the CS color with red transparent back for my project. It came out great, better than all black, IMO.
I have the newer GT version too. And the 2TS, and another CS.

Yup. Once again kurt could charge $30 more and sell 10x .
This is the gen2 2k in a way but reports are lots of these sx need work and the hw is fairly cheap. That's not something you would hear about with the original 2k.
You got to hand it to kurt though. He does not want to dilute his agile brand. Sort of like Gibson no matter what guarantees it is made in USA and has a nitro finish.
It's a good question. Should rondon release a mic agile?
