Hey guys, was piggybacking on another member's amp build thread and thought I would start a thread for my new project to keep a log for myself and also to receive some feedback from members here.

I have always wanted to get into tubes but dont really have the capacity to. Cant run cabs where i live or afford a nice head or combo. I recently learned about guys using tube preamps to get an authentic sound so I thought i would give it a try. There are lots of these out there like the Kingsley stuff and the Two Notes Le Preamp series. All out of my budget.

I did find this cool thread on a guy that did a modded version of the Matchless Hotbox. So I figured why not give it a go.

I have most of the stuff in my cart and the total comes to like $70 so far so good I think.

I need ideas for the power supply for sure. Any ideas are truly appreciated.

I have one of these I modified which sounds like a Matchess. Think I paid $100 for it.

Yes - preamp in a pedal. And, yes - the AX84 is extremely close to the Mufffn, except it has a clean channel. Not a surprise as it all is a take off of the JCM800 master volume (2203?) gain channel.

thats what i was going for is the JCM 800.

I want to configure it so the clean will run into the dirt to boost it.

although, the parts list is going to be more expensive than an english muffn lol.

Im trying to make my own Two Notes Le Crunch or Le Lead lmao.

after the preamp im going to go into either pedals or direct to the interface into Two Notes WOS or another cab sim program.

I want to make a CAB IR loader pedal too like the Two Notes Torpedo CAB

So in that diagram the footswitch looks like it just switches between the two preamps. I wonder if I can configure the switch to have either both on at the same time and then i can blend them or to have clean boost dirt

You could if you attached (2) 470K mixer resistors. One after R43 and the other after the sweep lug of the Master Vol.

What about sending the clean into the dirt channel for a clean boost?

A 1M linear pot could be used in lieu of the mixer resistors. Their is already a lot of gain in thant circuit. Are you sure you want to put the clean circuit in front of it?
