It's with a heavy heart that I write this. My father, who gave me the gift of musicianship, is in critical condition and unlikely to survive the day.

But I do appreciate this forum in many ways, and once again I'm thankful for the diversion it provides. Sometimes the diversion is from the mundane, but when it can distract from something painful it's most appreciated.

So, as a healthy change of subject, I do have some incoming additions to my rig that I ordered a few days ago.

First is the 1x12 extension cab that matches my Hot Rod Deluxe. I want to get the most of those 40 watts.

And having been convinced that my tone will only really find glory if I replace the stock speakers, I have a couple of WGS speakers on the way. An ET65 (similar to a Creamback) and an Invader (similar to a Greenback, but capable of handling up to 50 watts).

I've done a bit of thinking about the configuration, and I'll probably put the CB clone in the combo amp and the GB clone in the closed-back ext cab. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd be open to hearing them.

Now that I'm playing in a band my tone needs have evolved significantly. Hopefully these upgrades will help me keep from being buried in the mix.

Give me a couple of weeks and I'll have an official new gear post with pics and impressions.

Thanks for being here, my friends.

Having lost my father 12 years ago I do know what your going through, prayers said. For the lighter news do keep us informed of the speaker / cab situation. I've been toying with ideas on a speaker /cab that would play well with my toys.

sorry to hear about your dad, that sucks. i lost my dad to a fairly sudden illness (lymphoma) a little over 5 years ago. it still stings when i think about it and him. wish the best for you and your family under the circumstances.

on the diversionary front, i just ordered an eminence legend gb128 myself to swap out the mic celestion in my monoprice 15w, real eager to see how it sounds in there.

Positive mojo to you and your family. I can't fathom losing my father. May those speakers sing beautifully when you play them in honor of him!

    Very sorry about your dad.

I have an ET65 in my HRD. Big improvement. I have the HRD extension cab and I replaced the speaker in that as well.

Sorry to hear about your father. Hard to understand why your loved ones have to leave. I don’t know how to console someone losing a loved one really. I do wish you comfort though.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Best wishes to you and your family!

My dad is 84 and soon to be 85. He is often mean at times to my mom and I. Does not enjoy movies or books. Hard to figure what makes him happy. Getting a deal on broccoli, I guess?

I want to hear your thoughts on the 1X12. I have been thinking and looking for a light and great 2x12. Now, would I be better off with two 1x12's??? I wonder if any builders have a way of making two symmetrical ported 1x12 cabs that could be stacked or placed side-by-side and each port fire into the other cab? Just wondering...

Sorry to hear this. It's so hard when your parents aren't doing well. I hope that he can at least be kept comfortable and won't have to suffer.

Mr. Leyvatone, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I lost my father about a year and a half ago. Though I still can't play worth a damn, I too credit my dad for my love of the guitar. Some of my fondest memories from childhood are my dad sitting with us kids and mom at the kitchen table after dinner playing his acoustic guitar and all of us sing songs like "Jimmy Cracked Corn" and "How Much Is That Doggy In The Window."
