So I shop at GC...a lot. When you use your Gear Card like I always do (6 months no interest on used stuff, which is neat) they send you rewards certificates for a certain % of the money you spend. So I got two sent to me the other day for a total of $130, and decided to go shopping for my first 7 string in several years. At first I was going to just find something under $200 and basically just get a free 7 string. But I know myself and if I bought a cheapie it would just sit unplayed, so I decided to look for something nicer. Ended up finding this beautiful Carvin USA Custom Shop DC700. After the discounts from the rewards certificates it was $600 shipped w/case. I spec'd it out new and it came to $1800. Gotta love Carvin and the great quality combined with incredibly low resale value! The specs: normal scale (25.5), neck thru body (alder body, maple neck with two walnut stripes), deep blue flame top, flame maple fretboard, stainless frets, and active pickups. The active pickups part of it is important because I will definitely be outfitting this thing with Bareknuckles, and the passive Carvin pup cavities require a bit of routing whereas the active ones do not. Here are a quick pic from the Reverb listing where it sold a while back (for around $850 shipped), because GC's pics are just godawful. Somehow this sat around at GC long enough to get price dropped from $1K, which usually means there's an issue but I called and spoke to a manager and he assured me the guitar is near mint. I suppose no worries anyway given GC's easy return policy. I'll post some better ones when it arrives in a few days.
