I'm usually good with people doing whatever they want to their own guitars, especially if they bear in mind they're going to lose resale value. But this... This is currently listed on eBay (link below) & needs to be killed with fire and whoever did it needs a court order banning them from owning guitars for the rest of their life.

As if that weren't bad enough, this is how it was done:

Honestly I'm expecting it to sound like Boris Karloff when it's plugged in.

Well, it seems to be part of an estate sale.

It’s a G5120 from the mid 2000s, so not vintage. Who knows what they were thinking on the back. It can’t be for electronics access, maybe a smuggling device?

Out on the beach playing Kumbaihya, girls will be impressed wondering where the sandwiches and whisky came from.

Poor thing. The bids are already higher than I would go to buy it for parts. This is a strange continuation of the fact I don't own any Gretsches because every one I have played had been previously abused.

Did they cut that panel just to run the wire in one f-hole and out the other? They could have used a coat-hanger to do that.

If they were cool with cutting a big rectangular panel out of the back of the guitar, why didn't they cut a cavity for that acoustic pickup? Or at least drill a hole to route the wire more discreetly?

Remember: Friends don't let friends drink and mod.

Are those screws on the back panel? What are they even attached to?

8 bids, most recent is $154.50. What am I missing? That sh!t is not fixable. There can't be $150 worth of parts on that. What are they paying for?

Presumably, they added some wood to the back, along the edge of the hole, and that improvised panel sits on it and attaches with the screws.

It's at $202 + shipping. How much do those usually go for without the "improvements"?

There's one on Reverb right now for $390, but most of the rest are listed in the $499 + range. In fairness, the ones on Reverb are guitars, and not rejected extras from the Silence of the Lambs casting call.
