Got this one from the Cozart seller in MS, for a good price...came with a nice, tweed HSC too.

Haven’t modded it yet, but I will be changing out the stock tuners, pickups and bridge saddles. In its current stock form, it’s a nice platform and with some hardware and pickup upgrades, this guitar’s true potential will be realized.

My favorite aspect of this guitar is the wide, flat and beefy neck-thru neck. It’s a joy to play, and I’m looking forward to making the planned upgrades. Love that it has an ashtray bridge...AND...has the sought-after correct headstock...no beaks or head stock reshaping here. Flame veneer is decent, fit and finish is pretty to very good, no sharp fret ends or fret issues...which were my biggest concerns.

@rmfroyd, I think some pearloid pickguard magic might be necessary.

Fun fact: I only play Blue Öyster Cult songs on this guitar.

Love that King overall for many reasons. The sculpted heel is great and the headstock too. And is that flame on the fretboard??

The weird PG would have to go if I bought one. Other than that? Schweet!

I’ll try to answer this as best I can. SX’s are a better finished product, but I personally prefer the “bones” of my Cozarts, and of course, It all depends on the guitar.

I have three Cozarts: this Tuff Dog, a double cut Tele and a Telemaster. I also used to have two SX Hawks, two SX Furrians and three SX Liquids. I sold all of my SX’s except for one Liquid which is in the midst of an interesting project. SX’s are great budget guitars, I just never got along with them...not their fault, we just didn’t click (blasphemous, I know).

This Tuff Dog is the nicest of my Cozarts and is easily comparable, probably better than any SX I’ve owned, this is one of their better guitars. But as far as my other two, it’s a muddier situation.

“Feel” wise, I like my Cozarts better, than the SX’s I used to have, but overall, again, as a finished product, the SX’s are better...Cozart tuners are pretty bad/cheap, and fit and finish-wise, the Cozarts arent as good, with the SX’s at least in my experience, having more attention to detail in their production. With that being said, flaws aside, I still like my Cozarts better: I like their beefy bodies and nice thick necks with correct headstocks, and I was lucky with good frets and fret ends on all of them.

I sanded down the corners on the neck overhangs (annoying that they came like that) on my two other Cozarts; no SX ever came like that, and I will need to upgrade their tuners and electronics...but once they’re done, I’ll be happier with them than I was with my SX’s...if that makes any sense, lol.

    Hope that helps.
