Jumping on the Firefly semi-hollow body train, I ended up with a black one.

It arrived in single box, wrapped in a foam bag, with a couple pieces of styrofoam to support it. Surprisingly, no issues there. It arrived without any shipping damage. I was a bit worried about that after reading some of the Amazon reviews.

First impressions are mixed. I'm not blown away by it, but I'm not unhappy with it either. It has its fair share of finish issues and scratches out of the box. However, it is black, and because it is black, it shows everything.

The pickups and electronics work as they should. I'm not blown away by the pickups. The middle position is noticeably quieter than just the neck or bridge by themselves. The rest of the electronics and hardware are fine.

The setup out of the box was okay. Not great, but not terrible. The action was high, but not unplayable. The pickups were too high. The intonation was close but not completely dialed in. The neck relief was almost where it should be. The nut is cut well, but its about 1/64" off center and too close to the edge on the high-E string. I will likely have to move it over eventually.

The freboard is extremely dry and needs a good cleaning, polishing, and oiling. The fretends are decent. No sharp ends. The factory strings are pretty new and should last a good while before needing changed. The tuners are okay. I've had guitars with much better and much worse.

After going through and doing some cursory adjustments its playing decently.

Looks just fine to me, nice budget combo right there.

No strap. I believe there is a disclaimer in the amazon listing about it no longer coming with a strap. I think they ditched the strap and instead added the bone nut.

I’m debating on sending mine back. The more I play it the more lots of little things are adding up. There are finish issues, glue spots on the fretboard around a couple frets, the misaligned nut, and buzzing at the 3rd and 4th frets that is going to require a fret level to be playable without buzzing at a reasonable action.

I was hoping for fit and finish closer to my Squier bullet mustang but it just isn’t there.

I’ll probably give it a few days before I decide if I keep it or not.

i didn't even realize it was a bone nut, lol it looked like cheap plastic in the dim light i'm in, but you're right. that makes sense that they'd do that instead of the fugly strap.

Mine arrived today as well but I'm traveling this week so I won't get to put my hands on it until end of the week. I'm hoping mine is the Ibanez body style like yours is. I prefer that than the Mickey Mouse ear style.

Same with my sunburst Firefly that came today. I'm guessing the two pickups are wired out of phase. That's what mine sounds like, anyway.

They changed to the pointy horns. I already have 2 Ibbies so what we have here is a solid case of GAS relief. BTW - congrats on your Firefly!!!

Played with it some more today after work and then spent some time trying to get it dialed in better. Can't do it. Fret buzz all over with the action lowered below 4/32 on either side. Needing a fret leveling and the nut moved to the center is more hassle than it's worth with all the sloppy finish issues and scratches out of the box.

I'm returning this one and may try again when they restock in other colors.

Bummer. In the questions the seller said there would be a red in stock early next month if you’d want to roll the dice again.

I’m thinking that or maybe one of the semi-hollow Gretsch that have been popping up on slickdeals from Adorama.

    Sorry it didn't work out.

How much are the Gretches popping up for? Have to be at least double the 140 shipped price of these I would think. Of course Gretsch is probably going to have a lot better quality control.

Strange. I put it in my cart and don't see any tax at checkout. I got home today and opened mine. I'll do a NGD post tomorrow but the short version is I'm very happy with mine. I've paid a lot more for a lot worse.
