I'm lucky to have some nice electrics, but I've never had a high end acoustic...until now. Getting a decent bonus from my job this year so I decided to treat myself.

I've always loved Takamine guitars but had only played the lower and middle-end models, and the other day I came across this absolutely stunning EF450C. I was able to grab this one in excellent condition with the original case for an insane deal...the price was almost too good to be true so I just had to pull the trigger before someone realized what price actually should be :ROFLMAO:.

    This is the one:

    https://www.guitarcenter.com/Takamine/EF450C-Thermal-Top-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar.gc#productDetail

Very interesting guitar with something I've never seen before on an acoustic...a "thermal" (baked) spruce top, which apparently "imparts a vintage tone and feel that is surprising in a brand new instrument" (Takamine's words, not mine :)).

One last interesting bit: the manager at the GC who sold it to me said it was owned by a top country music star and traded in by someone who works for him (I believe he said either Keith Urban or Tim McGraw?). Normally I would call complete BS on this type of thing especially without any supporting paperwork but given that the guitar was in fact in Tennessee and I had already completely committed to buying it before he volunteered this info...who knows?

It's on it's way to me now so I'll post a full review in here on Monday/Tuesday when it lands, but if anyone has had any experience with this model or other higher end Taks I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Couldn't find many actual reviews online...but did find this beautiful Tommy Emmanuel cover on Youtube (here's lookin' at you @Mickey!)

Big congrats! I’ve never owned a Takamine, but I’ve seen them in the hands of some great musicians. I hope yours is everything you wanted and more!

Congrats, I agree that everyone should own at least one high quaility acoustic. I find myself playing mine more and more. I don't know much about Takamine but the ones i've seen were very nice. In general, the Japanese really seem to make very nice acoustic guitars.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys, I'll be sure to report back with some detailed guitar porn and an in depth review!

Yep, they have a lot of artists listed on their roster. Hilariously, the one that is pictured actually playing this exact model I bought is none other than Rick Astley :ROFLMAO:

I don't think Rick will ever 'give up' that guitar!:rolleyes::rolleyes::tonguewink::tonguewink::tonguewink:

But, seriously, the inlays are gorgeous and the sound is very crisp!

Nice guitar! I'm not big on acoustics but would love to get a nice one one day. I've seen some nice Takamines myself, but I feel I would have to find out the correct pronunciation of the name before I'd make the leap (I think many folks THINK they know the correct way).

Haha. Well hey, Clapton sold his 335 and the Blackie strat and they're both spinning around in a glass case at Guitar Center in NYC. Just cuz ya let something go doesn't necessarily mean it didn't cut the mustard ;).

Twenty twenty twenty four hours to go-oohhh...

Most non playing people say Tack-A-Mine. Most guitar players I know say Tack-A-Meen-EEE. I actually only know a couple of folks who say it your way....which I'm going to bet is the correct way, and I will say it that way from now on.

Yeah I'm not going to lie, I always thought it was Tak-a-meen-eee and only found out the right way by doing some research a while back...
