    Greetings drooling little guitar monkeys.

My name's Matt but you can call me Porkchop. I am a live/studio guitarist and I currently play with the Phx,AZ based band Bionic Jive.

I play 8 strings mostly in the band and my main 8 is an Agile Intrepid Pro 828 MN Nat. I had previously been playing an ESP Stephen Carpenter 8 string model when I acquired the Agile from (you guessed it) Craig's List.

I had been researching Agiles for almost a year when the Intrepid popped up so I managed to land the deal (a trade deal no less) and that thing blew me away. The tone, feel, look... you name it. I was very impressed. And all for HALF the cost of the ESP I had been playing.

NOW, I'm looking into buying a new Agile 8 string and I was wondering if you all had any experience with them. Especially, I am curious about the 8 string Hornet model. I'm a sucker for a cool V.

So fire away folks give me the straight poop on these bad boys so I can invest wisely. Thanks in advance![/align]

I have owned an intrepid before, and while I am not an 8 string player, it was a solid solid instrument. You really can't go wrong with them at all. I have no experience with the hornet 8 string, BUT I used to have a 6-string hornet, and it was by far the worst Agile guitar I have ever owned. Maybe I just had a lemon, but that thing sucked.

There might be some reviews on sevenstring.org, however.

Honestly, most of the guys around these parts aren't ERG folk. Most of us have trouble with 6 strings as it is... :puzzled:

That said -- tons of cool folk around here and a lit of really wise players/techs/luthiers, and what works on 6 works on 8, yes? And most of us will tell you that Agiles are absolutely ridiculous for the money you pay, even new.

    Welcome, new guy!

    Sorry I can't help with 8-stringers. I'm still working on 6 myself.

I had my suspicions about the Hornet as it was the ONLY 8 string that ships with a case. That and it has only a one piece neck.

    Thanks for the advice.

Also, if you haven't already, check out Keith Merrow's one song on yuoutube that he used his Intrepid on. I THINK it was Cosmogenesis that he used it. I can't embed it here at work, but maybe someone can for me

PorkchopMatt, I own a Hornet 8 string and I love it.

However, there is one major issue, the short 25.5 Scale makes it a very unusual animal. Especially depending on what string tension and tuning you prefer.

    Thanks for the welcome greetings!

I am quite familiar with Keith Merrow. Even talked with him on FB now and again. Cool and knowledgable guy.

If you guys dig his stuff, check out a project called Chimp Spanner. Very similar. And then of course there is Animals as Leaders. 2 guys with 8 strings and a drummer. Fucking stellar!

So I think I narrowed it down to this one!

I think that is definitely the best looking finish on the Intrepid. Can't wait to see the pics when you get it!
