So about ten years ago I bought a Tom Scholz Rockman just for kicks. It was $40 locally. I played it for a while and ended up getting rid of it for same price.

I do recall being able to get ‘that’ Boston tone from it and have over the years thought of getting another.

Well, I found one a week ago. After sitting down with it I was a bit disappointed. There seemed to be less knobs and no cool reverb/echo that I recall liking so much. The one I got was the Guitar Ace...

As I went back through my emails with the guy I sold the rockman too he said to me that it had X100 guts in it... I didn’t realize there were multiple models. And the more I think about it the more I think I had an original rockman (before the diffeeent models).

Anywho- somehow by stroke of luck there happened to be an x100 model in the town over. I was able to trade a strat I don’t play for it. This one definitely has ‘that’ sound! It will be a perfect pocket amp for when I travel.

The Sholtz/Boston story is really interesting. Check out the YouTube vid if you ever get the chance.

i would like to try one of those someday.

I had a Rockman as a teen back when they were new. It was pretty slick. Zero clue about whatever happened to it...

I really like his story. I'm an engineer AND a guitarist as well! But here's the real kicker: "More Than a Feeling" was the song I heard in 5th grade that made me want to pick up electric guitar. That as way before I knew his story or even knew what engineering was!

tom scholz interview - boston/more than a feeing.
Oddly, it's a Japanese documentary, but all of the talking and interviews are in english.

Brad Delp, the vocalist passed away. His replacement singer's recruitment is something out of Hollywood.
    ** Edit**
YouTube "tom schoz - the start of it." And then watch the succeeding video "one in a million."

The Japanese video mentioned above is good, too

I was just thinking about these yesterday when I noticed that Rob has a Scholz powersoak. I had previously only heard of the brand for these rockman amps.

Had a Rockman Soloist when I was young and impressionable. A 2 trick pony (clean chorus and the "Boston" sound) but they were good tricks, if a bit dated now.
