    Hello all.

I just got in today a Gibson Les Paul Junior Tribute - Blue Stain version. I know this is the unofficial message board for Rondo Music, but since Tobi John (and others) have helped revive the AD-2200 (at least temporarily), and its essentially a Les Paul Special Doublecut, I figured you guys could appreciate it. Like I said, I just got it in today, so I really haven't put it through its paces yet, but it does sound, and feel really good! Gibson's model color for this year is the Faded Cherry color. They made three other colors in a limited number - Blue Stain, Faded Brown and Ebony. I wanted the Blue Stain version as soon as I saw it.
    Enjoy.

    Scott

Looks great and while AGF might have once been predominantly Rondocentric, it hasn't been for quite a while. I'm pretty sure there's a fair number of active members who don't own anything from Rondo, or at least Agile.

Update us with your impressions as you have more time, thanks...

Ok, after playing with it for about 1.5 hours, couple more observations. The body is a 1 piece mahogany body. I was fully expecting a 2 piece, nice surprise. The neck is a maple neck - not mahogany. Certainly not a deal breaker for me, purists may not find it so.

Since the body and neck are different, the blue stain is lighter on the neck. Gibson used a Nitro satin finish with no grain filler on the wood. I think it works well on the Junior model for $800. Gives it a workman like vibe. However, if I'm spending $2500-$3000 on a Standard or something, grain fill that sucker and make it smooth (which they do obviously).

Speaking of the satin finish, this is my first guitar with it. It took a while to get used to the feel of it. Certainly not bad, just different. No sharp fret ends. Nut is a Tektoid (plastic?) nut, not bone. Tuners are the Gibson Deluxe tuners with the little knobs. I'll have to keep watching these tuners over time. They've gotten a bad rep over the years for slipping.

The pots are pretty stiff. I mean you really have to rotate them with your finger. Volume seems to disappear completely around 2-2.5. I might have to look into that later. Tone pot works great all the way through.

The P90 is fantastic! I'm not sure I can give it an adjective to properly describe it. I got out my AD-201 (the only other guitar with P90's) for comparison. The Gibson sounds better, but at roughly 3x more money, you'd expect that.

I'll post more as the dig continues.
    Scott.

Is it a slim profile neck?

I believe the elusive Firefly is the special of the day.
To the OP, I also like the blue the best. I say "nice choice."

My opinion only-and likely frowned upon by many, but:

I did a satin finish with tru oil and I think the 2 go together like peas and carrots. Drank it up like it needed it.

I was under the impression they only did the cherry. I like the blue. I'm seriously considering one of these but it won't be until the end of the year and I have many other things on the list so we'll see. Congrats on that beautiful LP Junior.

    Looks awesome!

My personal preference is the traditional JR pick guard, my favorite of all pick guards, but that’s a teeny point

    Rock that thing!
