I have been waiting six months to submit this post...

Long story short (actually, it’s pretty long)…

    Part I
    • I finally located a used Baja telecaster in a town three hours away. It had a few dings, but it was in good shape and I could afford it.
    • It was completely white. No me gusto guitarras blancas. But the price was right so I took it home.
    • Our band’s practice space is below an art studio and we have befriended an eccentric retiree who paints up there from time to time.
    • In an effort to snaz up my guitar, I threw her a bone and asked her to paint a pick guard for me.
    • She declined to paint the guard itself, but offered a few of her prints to mount.
    • So, working together, we picked four and cropped out my favorite parts.
    Part II
    • I mounted the first one last fall and we played a fundraiser gig shortly afterwards. Somebody asked me if it was a Susan Schiesser piece. “Um, yeah. I guess.” (I didn’t know her last name).
    • After two more people – at the same show - identified it as her work, I googled her when I got home.
    • ‘Turns out that she’s kind of a big deal. Each of the paintings below sold for at least $10,000.
    • When I called her to share my investigative prowess (and humility), she said “You guys make me laugh so hard, it’s the least I can do.”
This isn’t my guitar, but it looks like what I bought last summer:

Lousy pixel quality, but here are the original paintings and how we cropped them...

Sweet.Somehow I get the feeling a hand painted guard from her would be pricey and you couldn't play it for fear of damage. Best part you got custom guards and a cool story behind them.

Mr. Bubblez is on the tele now. The garden looking pick guard was the first to grace the guitar. Regardless of the story and artist, I have had many people approach me before a gig or at a break to check it out.

I am so thankful that Susan threw ME a bone.

Even after the cool story those are great prints as a pickguard.
That right there is when it makes sense to have a white guitar

I guess I'm prejudiced against white and black guitars. I just don't normally like them.
I don't like white or black cars or motorcycles, for the most part.

    That said, there ARE exceptions.
I actually do have a black guitar, and I'm looking at getting a black bass.
And, there are black cars that I actually like. Corvettes and Porsche 911s come to mind, as well as Pontiac Trans Ams.
Plus, the Vincent Black Shadow. Well, any Vincent motorcycle.

Seems to me, on guitars, the pick guard color makes a huge difference on a white or black guitar or bass.
White with tort looks good to me.
What you have is just gorgeous.
I like all the pick guards she did for you.
