Woke up and went upstairs this morning (technically yesterday morning in my time zone now), to see a huge box waiting for me for my birthday, well I had enough time to open it, and look it over before we had to head to my grandparents for dinner. So after HOURS of waiting to get back to the beauty I finally got to get back to my new LTD V-401DX in See-Through Black.
It's a "Set-Thru" neck/body. I'm not entirely sure of the meaning of this, I assume some sort of combination of a set neck, and neck through. 25.5" scale. Mahogany body, with a flamed maple top, and a maple neck, rosewood fretboard.
The heel on it feels pretty great, has good fret access, the frets are all smooth and feel great. The Floyd Rose Special is amazing, it was STILL perfectly in tune, and set up from when my Mom received it and put it in her closet 6 months ago. The tuners are a little meh, but it doesn't really bother me since it has a Floyd, and the 81's it's loaded with have quite the punch to them, a lot of high end that's for sure. The action was pretty low out of the box, absolutely no fret buzz, but I prefer it to be pretty damn low, so I lowered it, and tuned to my preferred tuning of 1/4 step down, still no fret buzz, played for a few more hours, abused the shit out of the FR, and only had to SLIGHTLY adjust the tuning and it hasn't budged since. I am thoroughly impressed with this guitar, and so grateful for receiving it today. So hard to put it down.

Well I guess on to the pr0n so you animals don't lose it. I'll have to try and snap some better shots tomorrow when there's some daylight.

Noice. I'd love a similar style guitar but play mainly sitting with guitar resting on sofa instead of leg. Don't think a V would be good for my situation. Happy NGD! Now shred us up a toon!

Nice guitar, but definatly not my style.

1/4 step down? Seems that would put you out of tune with everyone. :puzzled:
That would put you right between , say, A and A flat, etc. Keyboard player, etc. must have a tough time with that one.

I can hopefully start posting tunes up after this Friday when I get paid, I'm going to buy a good usb interface/effects pedal finally.
I definitely love the flame on this thing, from one angle it's jet black, from another, it's kind of a deep, dark purple and you can see the flame, I'll try to catch it when I get some good pics.

And yeah 1/4 step down sounds a little bit off when I play with other guitarists or anyone really, throws em for a loop. I have to use a tuner that lets me change it from 440 to 420:grin:
But I got the tuning from a few Pantera, and early Megadeth songs, and I just really liked the subtle difference from it.

Finally some decently lit pics that show that it is indeed transparent black lol, so hard to capture.
And yes my mom is pretty awesome, I'm super lucky.

This thing has some MAJOR sustain, it just wails, and I can pull up on the Floyd for days, and the notes don't fret out, fade out, the just keep screaming, and its still in tune. Though I might lower my action a little more. And I'm heavily contemplating getting some Dave Mustaine livewires for it, but the 81's aren't bad at all, in fact I rather like them, but I really want to try the livewires.

Thanks for the new, better pics so we can see and enjoy that nice flame. I am sure the photos still don't do the guitar full justice. Can't wait to hear her. What amp will you be running her thru?

Thanks guys, it is a brutal killer, if any of you V/Metal guys find a deal on one, I highly recommend it by my experience so far.

Oh absolutely it looks amazing in person, my jaw literally dropped the first time I held it in the light.:love_at_first:
It'll be my Peavey Classic VTX, and I'm thinking of getting either the ZOOM G2.1 Dave Mustaine pedal, or one of the Line 6 M series MFX pedals, or floor PODs. I'd like to get an MFX pedal that interfaces instead of just a USB interface.

Also forgot to mention, she nabbed it off of Amazon, for like 500$
100$ less than the one guitar center had that didn't have the Floyd special.
