So....New Neck Day! During the latest 20% off everything coupon sale at Ebay I picked up a WD Tele neck from Stratosphere. It came today (a day early no less) and I'm pretty stoked about it. Some of you may remember I purchased a Mighty Mite neck from MF for my Barncaster project a few months ago. It was a V-shaped neck that looked great but didn't meet muster. It had a smaller nut width than advertised and had a much thinner profile. That coupled with the V-shape made it very odd and uncomfortable to hold - it went back.

The WD Music neck I got today is a completely different animal. It's advertised as having a 1 11/16" nut width and although I haven't taken measurements yet - it sure feels spot on. It's got a nice beefy feel to it - I'd guess around .86 to .87" at the 1st fret. My first thought was this profile reminds me of my Squier '51 neck - this is a good thing. The frets are nicely done with no sharp edges. The back of the neck is sanded with no finish - feels very very nice.

This has re-energized me for completing this project. Here's a few pictures.

    Lookin good.

How thick was the V profile?

I've noticed it's not so much the nut width but the neck thickness if coupled with a narrow nut. If it's around that .87+ & a 1 5/8" I can deal with it. Any thinner in the neck depth dept & it's a strange sensation.

The Mighty Mite V-neck was only around .8 - .81 thick. Way to skinny for a v-shape IMHO. This WD neck is actually C-shape - very comfortable.

Noice, would even look good upside down on my El Cheapo lefty special. that neck needs swapping tiny frets and 14" radius doesn't work for me.

I get all my necks from the Stratosphere... Haven't tried a WD neck though, I usually go with Allparts.

I almost went with the Allparts "Chunky" neck. .97" at the first fret - whoa! Maybe the next project.

What a beautiful fretboard on that thing! You scored big. Goes great with the body too. I look forward to seeing the completed build.

    If I recall it was $110 - 20% = $88 + $17 shipping for a total of $105.
