To collaborate with I mean. I compose a lot of material, including vocal parts, though I'm just not good enough of a vocalist to do the material justice. At best I feel I'm able to get my idea across so somebody else can make it come to life.

The gentleman singing on this Hendrix cover I tracked yesterday is named Brett. Very cool guy, a guitarist, drummer, and vocalist. I believe he plays mandolin too. A multitalented fellow who is a member of a local blues band. I'm playing all the instruments on this one. I look forward to working on some original material with him in the future.

You have found the key to really enjoying your talents. People hold on to their "Precious" songs that languish. Share your talents with others it's of mutual benefit. I know brilliant people who don't write because they can't sing.
Cool, excellent quality recording capturing spirit.

That sounds very good. Bret's voice works well here. Nice playing.

I've been goofing around lately playing Hey Joe slower and in all maj-7 chords, which shifts its melody into a RB/jazzy feel. Been singing "Hey Josephine", about a sister who's been handled cruelly by her man for the last time. Its an interesting twist. Find some bluesy throated gal to softly sing it, and switch the background harmonies to male voices, or a mix.

I hear an intro phrase like
    E,C#,hammer/lift D#,G# G#
    octave slide C,D,D,C into Emaj7

Love the tones TMC, so authentic. : )

The singer is good but I always hear Jimi or Roy Buchanan in my head when I hear Hey Joe.

    Thanks for listening guys.

@stevebway, I too know people that have ability in maybe one capacity, but not in another, though their ego won't allow them to let another person come in who can simply do it better. I believe that smart people with their egos in check surround themselves with talent. It only makes you shine brighter, whether you're a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, or whatever.

@fullonshred, the tone is simplicity itself: A good Strat on the neck pickup played through a pushed 60s Marshall type circuit. No pedals. Other than that, I find that the "Jimi" sound is mostly in the hands.

I *really* like to have other people to work with, but it's virtually impossible (and frustrating) for me to have them physically be in one place all at the same time.

I've taken to laying down tracks on a sequencer with keyboards and guitar for reference and a general sound, and then having the people who do it better than I do (most fit that description) sub in their parts on empty tracks. Works a treat.

You certainly nailed the right tones, and the playing was spot on as well. Very well done in my book.

I've joined forces with @RedLesPaul a few times. Had @Narsh do a solo on something of mine and also participated in some of his AGF jams. Also sent a tune minus the guitar tracks to @tlarson58 to fool around with. It's fun and convenient to collaborate like this because you don't even need to be in the same state, let alone the same room.

I've tried to collab a few times in this way, but it's just not enough. Nothing beats four or five otherwise sane adults losing their minds in the same room while making some shared noise.

It was a pleasure collaborating with @toomanycats and would jump at the chance to do so again. I'm open to "jamming" with others as well.

Sounds good @toomanycats ! After being a humbucker guy for years, I am just now learning the beauty of a Strat for certain things.

    Thanks man.

I had walked away from single coils for a couple decades myself. I was strictly a Les Paul guy. But one day about five years ago I bought a MIM Standard Strat at a pawn shop and it was a revelation. The delicate tones, the detail, the "quack" of position 2 and 4, the whole Fender vibe just seduced me and drew me back to the single coil world. Now I've got like, I don't know, 30 plus Strats of various makes, American and Mexican Fenders, Squiers, Fernandes, Galveston, Dixon, Washburn, and so on.

I think that there are particular tones that you can only authentically nail with a Strat. Gilmour, Clapton after Cream, Hendrix, and SRV particularly come to mind for me.

Have you heard Kenny Wayne's new record "The Traveler"? his tone is KILLER, some of the bast raunch Strat tone I've heard in a long, LONG time.
