Man, these guys never cease to blow me away. Just sharing here for any other fans who may not have heard it yet, a few of the tracks I really dig (and a good sampling of the album as they're all quite different):

I hear some Uriah Heep influence in that first cut.

Once again, Paul, you've crystallized my thoughts exactly.

Another great Opeth record. Mikael's songwriting skills have risen to the level of composer, the layers of music in these songs is insane, and work perfectly for each song.

Also kinda cool to listen to the Swedish versions...if I heard right, this is the first time he's ever released a recording with him singing in Swedish.

Never heard of them before but sounds very complex and the talent is clearly evident. What genre would you consider this, Progressive Rock ?

This band was more or less a death metal band when they started but eventually really moved in this progressive rock direction. I would characterize them as progressive metal. Apparently so does Wikipedia, if that counts for anything :).

I still think Damnation is their greatest record, highly recommended. But this new one is climbing the ranks very quickly.

Love Opeth. I'm a few songs in to the new record. Very much in the vein of their last few albums (more prog, less death). Enjoying it so far

I will be checking this out. Thanks for the reminder.

Got a three hour drive this evening to Burlington, VT so this will get played.

As an aside, I stream via amazon music and one of my pet peeves is when you search albums by an artist they are not listed chronologically, they seem to be listed by “popularity.” Totally illogical.

Additionally, when you add an album to “my music,” they then get listed alphabetically. Who organizes their albums alphabetically? I would organize my entire catalog alphabetically and then chronologically by release. It doesn’t seem there is any way to change this in a settings menu either.

Sorry to hijack the thread....carry on

That's strange, I haven't used Amazon Music in a while so I haven't seen that but it certainly doesn't make much sense. I usually use Spotify when on the go and I think their organization is a good amount better than Amazon's.

Most of the time though, I'm enjoying music via this setup instead :). I wasn't going to spring for the deluxe edition of this new Opeth record since it's almost $100 shipped, but I came across one for a little over $60 on Ebay somehow so now that's on the way and will be joining (providing I find some damn space for it!):

I might have to switch to Spotify, I’m on the road often.

    Killer record collection btw.
