Guys, my second attempt at a PGK FINALLY arrived...Long story, but all in all, I couldn't be happier. Phil is a GREAT person to work with, and after a issue with the original build, the second one appears to be FLAWLESS. I posted this originally to the mylespaul forums, but wanted to show you guys, too.

Condensed version: I purchased a personally selected top that I had sent to Phil from NorthRidge Tonewoods that they advertised as 5/8" thick - apparently it wasn't, and one of Phil's guys decided not to use it because it wasn't thick enough - without telling anyone - and built the kit with a plain top. So, after about 8 months total, I have a kit with the top that I chose (from Northridge again, this time 1" thick to make sure it was good enough). Phil took care of me, so I must give him props...Couldn't ask for better customer service.

Anyway, on to the pics... This baby should rival any PRS 10 top if I can finish it half way decently....

Just an LONG overdue update on a Precision Guitar Kits build that I started several years ago. The highlights, it's the their "custom 59" model, with 2-piece African Mahogany, tummy cut, shaped heel, chambered body, ebony board. I personally picked out a flamed maple top, had it shipped to them, and they made the kit for me. I stained the top blue with some analine dye, and applied about 15-20 coats of Tru Oil. Wet sanded with micro mesh up to 12,000, then hand polished with Endura Shine Guitar polishing kit (2 step process).

Anyway, here's some indoor and outdoor shots. It's not perfect, and I'm sure lots of you folks do a much better job, but I'm thrilled with the results.

I'm working on the headstock now, you can see the can of Krylon black in the reflection LOL. Three coats of that, sanded to 1000 grit, decal application, and started on the Tru Oil. It will take several more days and many more coats of TO on the headstock, trying to get the decal leveled out to the finish (no TO on it as of yet when this pic was taken).

Plans are to install 50's wiring and Slash Alnico Pro II's in it, and all silver polished hardware. I forgot what tuners I bought for it, I think Grovers. This has been a LONG road! LOL

Super top. Looks like you did a stain and sand with black first. Doing one of these is a marathon not a sprint for sure.

Haha I hope not! But with 3 kids, I don’t have a lot of free time.

Thanks for all of the compliments! I’ll post more as it progresses. My soldering skills are very lackluster so don’t expect to see that! LOL

I dont feel so bad that my PGK SG is pushing a year now. I wonder how long the previous owner had it before he sold it?

Mine's glued up & 1 coat of shellac. Aren't their kits amazeballs?

Your top is specatular. I'd of had a hard time not wanting to do a '59 type of burst.
