As I recall, a lot of people were disappointed with their mystery stocking last year... And it was $10 cheaper, wasn't it?

At $20 it was fun and I felt like I got my money's worth. At $30 it wasn't worth what was received. At $40 I'd just be gambling for a big item.

It'd be nice if they gave us an idea of how many are available so we can know the odds of this gamble. If there are 300 stockings available and my chance of winning a $700 guitar for $40 is 1:300 that's one thing, if it's 1:3,000 that's another...

I was on there the second it went live last year and couldn't get through to get one - both times. The first time, the servers crashed and they had to re-schedule. The second time they may as well have crashed. I've never received anything great in a mystery stocking anyway, so I'm not going to waste my time this year. Too much frustration for nothing.

A little more info would be nice, I'm on the fence. I got in 2 years ago, wasn't worth it. We should do one here for members, proceeds go to the website or a charity. I'm in for donating a guitar related gift.

I think this actually has been done in the past, but would be cool to do again.

Being a southpaw I'm always afraid to try for things like this.
If I manage to get one, everything in it would be for righty's only. :(

Every year I think it might be fun to participate, and every year I see what the 'losers' get for their money, and I'm glad I passed.

It would be different if you could count on getting something cool if you don't win the 'grand prize', but it's like one person gets the guitar and everyone else gets a sock full of garbage.

nah in all likelihood your $40 would get you all handedness-agnostic goodies: picks and stickers.

With my luck, I'd get right handed picks!

I got one two years prior but missed out last year.

I will not be participating this year for $40.00.

I was in a small local music store today dropping in to replenish stocks, where I have a tiny rack of my straps.
There was a fellow standing at my rack, looking real close at my straps. He was holding a budget Levy's strap in his other hand from a different display section of the store. Jarod the fiddle tech there noted if he had any good questions about Well-Hung straps, the builder was standing right there behind him. That was fun!

We had a nice conversation - he was comparing the padding, the ends of the straps, the width. Of course
my strap cost well over twice as much as the one he was holding, but he noted mine looked and felt TEN times better. I didn't want to pester him while he was shopping, so I left him to browse, but I was walking tall when I left the shop. Just a cool thing from this afternoon.

Ok re: grab bags.... if you play the lottery, grab bags maybe not a bad idea. Me, I want max value out of my gear money, so I will usually buy something tangible. Also hard for me to spend $120 on a catchily-named big co. fuzz pedal that I will be selling for half that in six months. The pedal consumer game reminds me of standing in the fishing lure section of the sports store. So many lures are designed more to catch fishermen than fish.

A good strap will put a smile on your face EVERY time you use it, and more. Even just looking at from across the room might cause you to pick up that guitar more often.

    /self-serving spam transmission

I would, but I probably have to earn money by doing real work at that time.

I would rather buy 40 powerball tickets than take a chance and get some stickers, picks and other assorted items. This thing has run it's course, IMO.

Been doing it since it started. The anticipation far outweighs the reward.

    Skipping it this year.

I got in the last 2 years but got nothing great, sold everything on ebay/reverb and got my money back and a little more. Soon as I saw the email for this year I deleted it. $40 NO WAY.
