I think @JAMES SCHAFFNER bought a different amp (15 watt?) in what I think is the same series. I've heard his amp after the tubes were changed and it was good.

Yeah, I have the Artist 15. It did benefit from new tubes a lot. The V type speaker wasn't bad but the creamback in there is much better. It's about twice the size of those anniversary models though.

Isn't it a shame that almost everything below the boutique price range needs a tube & speaker swap to be good?

It would be nice if there were more options between the entry level and high end.

A $750 amp with cheap tubes and speaker would probably only cost $100 more to be legit right off the shelf.

the v-type speaker in that amp works incredibly well with a helix in a live situation IMHO. I have the Artisan anniversary amp, bone stock - and am happy with it. A bit bright with that cheap celestion, but the more i play it the better it sounds. still may replace at some point.

Don't get me wrong, The V type is a nice speaker in it's own right, I just preferred the creamback.
