So I used to hang out here a lot. But then I got on a rebuilding Squiers kick, and I started hanging out at Squier Talk all the time. Still do, really good group of guys and gals over there. But an Agile for sale brought me back here for done info, and you guys gave me the info I needed. Thanks!!!

I thought I would take a moment and show you what I’ve been up to. Here are some pics of the Strats I have been building.

For the most part, the only things I reused were the body and neck. Everyone is different. Either pickups or wiring mods. I have learned a lot on my journey!

Just rattle cans. One can of primer, one can of color, and one can of clear.

..And that's all it truly takes if you use good technique. Try saying that on any guitar building forum though... sheesh.

Damn! I expected to come in here and hear some new info about the band Head East or Rainbow. Seriously, looks like you have been staying busy. Sweet paint!

Strats are probably my favorite design. Love the mods. I've always wanted to try a strat with lipstick pickups. Come to think of it, I probably could ask Rob on here to make that happen.

Great looking work. Each one looks fabulous.

Pink with lipstick, Vava Voom! Put a wig on it and take it to a movie.... a drive-in.

Very nice work @dbrian66 ! I too have rebuilt, or am in the process of rebuilding, a couple of SEs. They're great platforms. Questions/comments:
    1. I notice one of yours is a Starcaster and I read an opinion on Squiertalk recently, something to the effect that Starcasters are as good as, if not better than SEs for modding. What's your take?
    2. I'm so happy to see another post with regard to successful rattle can refin jobs. I've been wanting to try this for ages but am afraid my massive lack of patience will make it a bad experience. Did it take long to get the hang of it?
    3. I love that yellow and black one! Again, great looking axes there. (y)

My Starcaster was almost identical to an SE. Only difference was the maple fretboard and big headstock. But not all Starcasters are the same. So far, the best I can tell is they are the same as there Squier serial number cousin. Mine has a CSX serial number, same as the SE’s do. Some of them have IC serial numbers and have thin bodied like the Affinity’s do. I’m still learning this stuff so I might be wrong.

Cool info and some nice projects. I kind of wrote off the starcasters, because I played a couple years ago that were really low end crap. They were super light basswood and the frets looked like they were just cut off flush and not finished at all. I haven't even picked one up in years.

You need tons of patience! But no, it doesn’t take long to get the hang of it. Cleanliness and temperature are very important as well. I have had the most luck with the Ace Hardware brand of paint. The yellow and orange ones were both that paint. The pink one is Rustolium from Walmart. It went on really nice and looks great, but it’s still not completely hard. It’s been probably a year. From what I am reading now, it might not ever get all the way hard. Idk. Might have to strip it down and put a coat of Ace clear overtop of it and see if that helps.

The only real bad ones that I have heard about are the ones with the arrow head headstock. But the ones with the Fender type headstock tend to be like their Squier counterparts.

Interesting ,I put strats together and do some finishing .But myexperience has not been the same. All the starcasters I have checked really were funky. And the SE,s have been great. Maybe just the luck of the draw.
