I will admit that it is nice to see some SX love coming back around. In my case, I got to about 14 or 16 guitars and found that I got a lot more selective in gear choices. I know this is a fairly meager collection around here, but with guitar real estate running low, the whole sell one or two to get something else has come into play. Guitars that I would have once jumped on, gutted, and modded out, get passed over. These Callisto models are quite appealing though, would definitely be a good one to hot rod.

There is a certain rush to getting a new guitar that us cheapo modders get to experience a lot of. And when one becomes as good or better than name brand,
    Oh yeah.
I tend to loose money in resales, but gain experience and modding/service knowledge. Eventually my herd will narrow down. The wide experience has allowed me to discover what I really like best. That wouldnt happen with just owning a few expensive name brands.
This Callisto model is turning out to be an "Oh yeah" experience for me, where the result may be closer to my ideals than I have gotten paying 4x the price, including mod costs.

Then there are the cheap mod guitars with qualities the name brands dont even offer.
SX Mahogany/dual p90 strat for example. (love strats and strat trems, and p90s in hog bodies)

A challenge? Hobby? Learning experience? bored? Just to have something to talk about to keep this place going? Ego?
But you're right, not because its very practical.

Yup, still interested in a hog/p90 strat. (For some reason)
What pulled me in here was the SX ash strat and ash tele. Options I wanted but was not going to pay $1K+ to fender. Then the Al 2500 ash top albino I was smitten with. That stupid guitar pulled me totally off fender style and now I mostly play LPs, casino and LP jrs.

I used to be all over the SX and Douglas less expensive guitars. I even bought a Douglas shadow pro quite a while back.
Lately I find myself perusing Martin's though,, go figure!

Check this out, MIJ Tokai Mahogany Telecaster with really nice P90 in the neck. Gorgeous light 2 piece mahogany body, and one piece mahogany neck. Not really relevant to the thread other than this might convert you back to Fender lust lol.

I mostly skipped doing NGD's on most of my purchases the last couple years so figured this was as good a place as any to show this baby lol. It's a shame they used glossy poly coat on this thing because it's the nicest hog I've seen. Interestingly, the mahogany used for the neck is darker than the body and seems to have different grain, also super nice, and some of the darkest beautiful rosewood board of any of my guitars. I didn't even bother oiling it. Okay, hijack over.

There is one thing that bugs me about this guitar. It's obviously an expensive instrument. I got it for like 40% markdown or so and still cost me just under 7 bills which is right up there with he most I've ever paid for a guitar. So they are going to build a really nice instrument and charge a premium price but they can't use a stamped neckplate? I know it doesn't affect anything but it bugs me to see the same basic chrome neckplate you would find on a 100 dollar MIC strat on a guitar that was at the top of the Tokai lineup the years these were made.

These Callistos look killer by the way. I am trying to figure out the difference between the STD + and the Set Neck STD's? Also does Rondo charge tax to Cali?
