    Ok, thanks Notme.

I'm fairly focussed on a Gibson ES335 style copy with a 'Quilted Finish', similar to Grote.

    Regards

Sorry if I misled you about a quilted finish for the Firefly. Unfortunately thats a no go.
Customs fees here in the US are hit or miss from what I've learned here in the forum but it is definately something to consider.
I won't answer for @tobijohn . I've only been learning to play guitar since January of this year but I have been hit with a severe case of Gear Aquisition Syndrome (GAS). I'm somwhere in the upper teens. I'm currently liquidating previous hobby aquisitions to fund the current one lol.

I'll shoot them a message and see what they say. Like you It's hard to figure out how they can make a profit from the guitars when they are $140 shipped.

Like you, I'm a beginner who not only has a longstanding and growing passion for this instrument but also enjoys the more recent innovations in choice and styles; largely generated by the Asian creators.

Well, looks like I'll run with the Grote 335 copy.

Just waiting to hear back from Asian Customised Guitar shop, cost, availability etc.

And obviously it makes sense for me to wait to for your assessment of the 'Lefties' on order. May be I should message that shop whether they can also obtain my preferred choice.

    Thanks again Guys.

Firebird making a Thinline Tele copy? Based on my experience with the 335/AS73 copy I have - I'd buy one the instant they show up.

@mighty_duck I messaged George at Firebird Music and asked about the models you were inquiring about.
His reply was “yes, they will be doing some top quality guitars in 2019.”

Thanks Guys, but after a long wait (like many others) and much anguish, I've decided to push on with Grote; more choice overall, more history/track record and importantly for me, they can ship to UK now.

Good luck though, and I'm bound to watch, listen and remain interested in the 'Firefly Story'.

image.jpeg Just to break the boredom of waiting for your guitar, can you identify this guitar?

    Firefly or not Firefly?

There's no fooling some folk, hey.

Currently on £213 inc shipping to UK.

Not bad. Ok, bit higher than anticipated $130 Firefly ticket but...

After I finished the National (Valco) amp, I finally got back to my Firefly. It took me a couple of sittings to finally get it all back together again. Here's how it ended up:
    IMG_2101.JPG

Tusc Nut, Kmise Roller Bridge (I really like it a lot), gold/black el-cheapo knobs from Banggood, generic humbucker size P-90s fromEbay/China (advertised as alnico magnets, who knows?), upgraded strap buttons, upgraded input jack, stock electronics otherwise, stock tuners, removed pickguard and poker chip, and total scotchbrite job.

Before I disassembled it, I had the truss rod about where I wanted it, and when I put it all back together it did not require adjusting. I thought the stock intonation was pretty good, so I measured the bridge saddle positions on the stock bridge and adjusted the Kmise roller bridge saddles to match. I reverse wrapped the tailpiece when I installed the strings. I loosely strung the high and low E strings on before I dabbed white glue on the nut. I used the outside strings as a guide to make sure the nut was aligned properly by sighting down the fretboard.

Once I got her all strung up, I only had to lower the pickups and raise the bridge to get it set up amazingly well. I'll probably tweak it some more after it settles in, but for now it sounds, plays, and feels GreAT. I'm totally happy with it.

The hardest part: Wrestling the stock wiring harness back into those tiny holes through the F-hole. This was a job that had to wait until my mood was right. In other words, I had to be in the mood to tackle some real frustrating and tedious work.

Once I got into it I figured out that my short stubby finger was actually usable in manoeuvring things toward their holes. Adding to the aggravation are those oversized nuts used to level the pots. To add insult to injury, I was confused as to how the volume and tones pots should be properly laid out, and after beautifully completing the job, I had to wrestle two pots to opposite (diagonal) holes to get it right. Long story short, in the process of that, I lost the neatness factor of the stock wiring harness, and dammit, I knocked the ground wire off the neck volume pot. Of course, I had to go back in again and fix that. Man I hate wiring guitars, I never get it right the first time.

I used these two cheap Harbor Freight tools and every swear word I know to help get the wiring back in the guitar:
    https://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-pick-and-hook-set-66836.html
    https://www.harborfreight.com/15-lb-capacity-telescoping-magnetic-pickup-tool-95933.html

This guitar is a great mate for my recently restored National Valco amp. One unmistakably great tone I can get with this rig is one of my favorite distorted blues tones heard on many early Chess Records recordings. I'm getting an authentic recreation of the rhythm guitar tone heard on this cut (and many more):

That may not impress you, but it impresses the hell out of me.
