Back in September when I purchased my Traditional III I was looking at one of these and it cost was 1999.oo..
Then some point in Late October early November they bump it up to the price it is now. 2299.00. All models saw the increase and like I've mentioned before. I feel that Gibson jack up the price and screwed the customer in order to cover their financial fuck ups.

If they think the $300 increase and the volume they'll sell them is gonna cover their financial issues, they're out of touch. They'd have more success slashing the prices for volume (pun intended) than an increase lol

If Sweetwater purchases the guitars from Gibson at wholesale or at a discount, isn't the price increase a Sweetwater thing? Just curious.

Presumably Sweetwater increased the price because Gibson did. Sweetwater's going to try to keep the price as low as they can for obvious reasons.

My understanding is that big companies like Gibson try to enforce the lowest prices retailers can offer. I don't know a lot about how they do it, but I know that they try to do so.

Yes. BUT...Henry & Co are convinced that higher prices equate to more desirability/worth and they think that will drive sales - that has been their business model all along and I don't expect them to change.

Saw a jump in price from 2017 to 2018 on the 2018 Explorer, luckily I locked it in beforehand.

There's no big scheme to cover their butts. Mfgrs, including guitar mfgrs, increase their prices every year.

What kills me is that the resellers, probably they HAVE to b/c of the mfgr price increase, increase the price of their stock already on hand! There's a few threads over at EBMM where people are complaining than an old stock piece shot up 300-600 just becase the 2018's went up. Now THAT is ripoff!!!

Gibson announced there would be 2018 price increase to all vendors many months ago....
any who, I would never buy a new year model in the Spring rather holding off until the Fall to splurge when brands
start discounting pricing to move this years models to prep for releasing of upcoming Next Years Models

I just bought a 2017 Traditional T from Zzounds for 1under 1500. That is a guitar Most stores still price at 2299. Sweetwater blew the last one out at 1599 about 2 months ago and the top was poorly matched.

I paid under 500 each for both my studios with HSC new. When I see the Studios going for more than I paid for any of my Traditionals I feel it's Gibson is trying is taking advantage of their customers. I know if the demand wasn't there, but when you see blowouts (which I purchased 99% of my Gibson's) is the demand really there?

I knew Gibson was increasing the prices. I don't think the price should stay the same from 10 years ago, but when you have several increases in one year.. just taking advantage IMHO. Capitalism

This is why I get a big smile on my face every time I open the case of my 3200. I think to myself "I got this beauty for $500! Gibson who?"

That could certainly be one of them. I"m not sure I can say that's true for me though, there's always one out there I might want :)

I think I'm done. I have two and both are keepers: a Custom Shop Bubinga J-45 and a Chet Atkins CE.
There have been things like 335's and Les Paul's in my past but they came and went. The J-45 & CE aren't going anywhere. :)

I have always had the idea/want for a "birth year" LP ( 1970 ). That was the year Norlin took over but there are some early 1970 production units that were built the "old gibson" way without the pancake body. Either way, just waiting for the right guitar and the right opportunity.

Regarding the actual OP's point, It's not just a Gibson thing to raise prices. Even Agile's cost significantly more than they did even 5 years ago. Do you hate them too? When I joined AGF you could buy AL-2000s for well under $200. Now the entry level set neck Agile LP ( 2500 ) is close to $300.
