Happy Easter AGF
This one has been a couple days project, admittedly not full days though.
Had a long piece of strangely-shaped scrap tooling leather, decided to just go for it and see if I could birth it into a cool strap.
A gazillion tippy-taps later and some careful dying, actually turned into a pretty cool one!
If you really want a 100% real vintage-tooled look and feelz strap please DON'T get one from a big company. They look super fake because they are
almost always perfect clones of each other embossed by big plates or run through roller presses.
Done and done. Should go nicely with this whenever it shows up from old England.
Pip pip, cheerio.
What the heck? It's just barely newborn!
That is going to be killer on your rig. Thank you... it will be off tomorrow!
I just signed in tonight to show off my first try at needlepoint. I subscribe to a subreddit that keeps showing me all kinds of subversive and hilarious traditional needlepoint... my wife and I have been laughing at them for months.
I figured I'd give it a go. Coming up with the idea was easy. This craft is VERY hard though
Needs flowers or something. Not sure if it's a craft I could stick with. Glad I tried it though, gives a person an appreciation for the art.
straplab has been humming along, fetched my daughter home back from school, she's taking graphic design. She asked me if I could figure out how to make her camera strap more comfy, then picked out this nice blue suedey material.
Twern't nuthing but a thing. Now I'm thinking of doing my own camera strap too because this
Some new stuffs... "Wild Thing" was a theme I did maybe seven years back, figured I'd resurrect it for the helluvit because I picked up some new fun fur in the city when I fetched my young 'un. Then I stuck 2 tiger straps on up reverb, one sold within minutes. The Leopard strap was gone in a couple days as well.
Hmmmm - never would have thought fun fur stuff would have been so "catchy." Don't like working with it too much, you cut the stuff and little hairs are EVERYWHERE. Showed a martial arts black belt strap a ways back in this thread. Got orders in for a couple more like it. Sent away a Gilmour/Hendrix to the UK, and working on another one of those for another dude right now.
Here's what the fellow in the UK feeded me back on that one just got word back today...
The best guitar strap I’ve ever used in many years of playing. Both good looking and extremely comfortable. Hardly felt the weight of my Les Paul at all during last night’s gig. The strap is very well made, no flaws, and easy to change length with a very secure adjustment system. Brad is a great guy to deal with and my strap was shipped in double quick time. Great product and great service. What more could anyone want?
And, he also sent me a photo...
oh, and working off of the classic Gibson DC, I submitted this... for consideration for development of an AGF DC style. this is what happens when you repeat the bottom horn on the top, keep it symmetrical.
I've had this sheridan cowboy tooled pattern embossed vinyl kicking around the shop for years waiting for a creative spark. I was initially going to cover my old cowboy-caster pickguard with it for a "tooled leather" look. Glad I didn't, would have been mega cheesy. The look is ok, but the "industrial copy tooling is rather "generic."
I got the idea to just hit with some good leather dye just to see what might happen...
I like it! I figure it dresses 'er up a bit, gives it a little... "oomph!" Then I sponged a few more, getting progressively darker with each.
Photo doesn't quite show the differentiation, but the change is subtle, are all just a tad different, (far left is the original un-dyed material). Look for Dark Cowboy, Darker Cowboy, and Darkest Cowboy coming soon to the Well-Hung reverb store. Probably inside a week. Really, they are still vinyl though, so won't be priced super high, but I like the fact they'll be originals, unlike anything else out there. Will have good leather ends and be padded out.
Feeling sassy & sexy.... might delete later
couple of new crockogators in whiskey went up today in my 'Verb thing, in case you missed the custom order.
Here's one wrapped around and preying on the Angry Chicken... O Nature, in all it's disgustingly savage glory!
Also a couple of RARE Matrikas in Lilac Purple & Black went up too, which will be the last ever in that colour I believe.
A quick and humble ask for any fellas who wish to give me a boost, and I wouldn't ask if I didn't think I needed it.....
In a day or two, perhaps even hours, I will become a vendor on Strat-Talk. I am trying things over there for a bit. I've been a member there for a few
months now, really cool community, similar to AGF in many ways. Anyway, If anyone here is a member and chooses to bump my thread with a word
or two and a even a photo, you know I would appreciate it from the bottom of my dark frigid Canadian heart. Any time I see anyone who has posted
in a thread, on any forum with a nice word or two or a photos, whether it results in any attention or not, gives me a powerful mental boost.
Also, I have started my first subreddit... called r/guitarstrapporn - anyone can be a member and post lovely pics of guitar straps. I've posted like maybe
thirty times there, quite a few people seem to be reading it, but there is still only one member other than myself. Please join up you are a redditor, and...
post a pic of your sexy guitar/strap combo, well-hung straps or not, don't matter. Any cool strap is welcome there.
This morning I went through my inventory, and listed a bunch of straps I had either kept aside for guitar stores, or whatnot,
or pulled off reverb for some reason then didn't relist, plus at least one that just plain got piled on top of with new ones so I forgot about it.
This afternoon I was feeling a bit sporty, so I tackled a couple of No Prisoners straps I had set aside to do some thinking on.
Meet "Godzilla", and "Night Surfer" born this afternoon in the Well-Hung StrapLab Studio. Cool one of a kinders, look great and super functional.
Godzilla has dozens and dozens of the brassy armour plates that flex, kind of like the old vox style strap, but these plates are bigger and look rather Asian, plus... a MONSTER double toothed roller buckle ( I crafted it so it stays away from your guitar). Night surfer features a robins egg blue leather belt with I dunno how many nickel grommets, a lot, sewn to a black leather 3" wide body. The Night surfer strap turquoise bit has been honestly worn in it's former life as a belt, you can see the finish checking going on where it sits on your shoulder. In a world of good mojo / bad mojo, this is fantastic mojo!
Both padded out generously, with honest strong harness leather ends watch for them on Reverb in coming days, or go see what the hell else I put up this morning LOL!
I commented on your sum long guy in your strat talk store but I didnt see the thread. You got a link?
I see your recent comments on a gallery photo THANK YOU!!! Strat-talk is set up different, despite paying about two weeks ago, I STILL don't have my own store thread there.
I think things happened inside 24 hours on this forum, and almost as quick on the Canadian Guitar forum. I don't think I get a "Store thread"... basically what I will have is a Shop thread similar to the insanitarium. I will post the link here when it happens
I will say that trying to do business with Enthused Digital has been rather trying, and it seems my experience is basically par for the course for vendors.
But I am trying to remain patient. got no choice actually
Strattalk, my lp and tdpri are the best bets I know of to market to. Oh and talkbass. Squiertalk strikes me as more budget conscious and not accustomed to fine haberdashery. Like this place used to be
Holy crap the fur. Tres beautiful!
Funny thing, a couple days ago on the r/guitarporn subreddit, there were a few fellas posting shots of increasingly stunning figured necks,
each one trying to up the other with more flamey and beautiful (and expensive) custom wood
After some fella posted his superhot PRS Mcarty Unobtanium Rare Special Wood Library Reserve neck in a bid to fold everyone out,
I dropped in my flamey wood
Suddenly over the past couple of days my Canadian Tire shovel handle has been upvoted into the top ten posts all time on the sub.
Reddit is strange but fun!
Reddit was insane a couple years ago, late 2017/early 2018. It moved so fast you couldn't hardly refresh the page without losing the post. Then the censorship hammer came down hard, and it was never the same since. Looks like a lot of hullabaloo about censorship coming about though, so perhaps good news to come.
FINALLY GOT my vendor banner on Strat-Talk tonight.
If you are a strat-talk member (in good standing LOL), I would definitely appreciate any nice
truthy things the Well-Hung tribe can muster up, or a whopper of a lie as well.
Sorry, I can’t help. I am not a member and if I was, I would definitely not be in good standing!
You can feel free to post the pictures of my Strat and strap there if that helps.
Do you prefer Nice? Or Truthy?
Let your unfailing good conscience guide you down the path of righteousness, t'wards the shining city of highest principle!
And, thank you sir!
Busy day today... build a couple this morning, put a few new straps up this afternoon, including these two, the continuation of the Well-Hung Matrika series, (beautiful 3" wide Sari trim direct from Pakistan). New gold and grey ones coming soon too.
Also put up another Skydog, recently completed.
Another No Prisoners strap named "Conquest"
And, the previously mentioned "Godzilla" and "Night Surfer", plus that black strap I ended up naming "Winterfell" are also up for grabs.
Oh, and I also recently found a couple of back stock Shock & Awe straps hiding under some stuff, ready to go too
And what say you fellas about this? This cardboard/fiber shit drives me crazy, how it can be legally called genuine leather?
I know this is happening with guitar straps. It looks so good, it can even fool me, and I work with real leather every day.
couple weeks back I was looking at pr0n on reddit, (guitar pr0n, the best kind), and came across a fabric paisley tele guy who'd developed his own
paisley acrylic pour paisley style, in a build concept.
Fella goes by the name Big D, so I figured he probably shuld make sure he's well-hung. Saw he had some fabric left, so I message him and asked for the sale of a custom strap...
He was all in, immediately. On friday his fabric arrived and today I completed his 3" wide hootenanny strap project.
Assembly of components, with the padding built in...
On the sewing deck, didn't have perfect matching green thread, but it didn't look bad at all once stitched.
Got the sliding buckle secured
Set the nose shape template, I have several, this is one of my newer ones which I am liking more and more
Trimmed to shape
Back to the sewing deck with some heavy duty T90 black thread
Gum helps get a nice burnish on the leather edges, with my homemade burnishing tool, (note the NICE thick leather on the nose).
Rub like crazy!
Apply a little shoe polish and a little mink oil to help preserve the natural oils
Most commonly use 5/16" and a very small 1/16, with a chisel shot in -between
Add the back end loop and assembly then pre-set overall length to fit the customer jusssssst right.
Ready to ship, so another lucky fella can become, comfortably hung!
Well not really LOL. But, you ever have a clever idea, and tell yourself, "Man, that would be cool on a T-shirt" then never
do anything about it so it gets lost forever, or some other dude takes it and makes a zillion dollars on your smartness?
Ok well I don't think anyone's gonna make a zillion dollars here, but if anyone is interested, I have a Redbubble account now and put together a little thing to promo my stuff. As a result, you can get your Well-Hung Make Any Guitar Awesomer! Tee, if you care to jump on the train. Reasonably priced, I think. The logo is available on all manner of stuff, coffee mugs, phone cases, stickers etc. looks like I make maybe I can even make a couple bucks on each tee, gee thanks Redbubble!
Anyway, they are there. I mean... just look at this cocky young buck, full of life.. so much promise ahead! Dude probably still fits in a medium.
Probably so very happy, knowing that his guitars are suddenly awesomer, and really, so is he.
Support the cause of making all guitars awesomer by considering a tee in various colours or whatever... or better yet a strap, LOL
redbubble link is in my sig
I dabble in graphic design a little bit, maybe I can come up with some other ideas too.
And yes, they are available in black
And of course, a little strap action, leather tooling going on in the straplab... another mountain strap replica, yay!
added my second Tee design to Redbubble... I think I'll do a series
***** cracks me up -
annnnnd another one I completed this morning
Ahhhh crap, making these things is a little bit addictive.
