Anyone get the email from ubuy announcing upcoming ash wood blanks/bodies(?) buyout? The wording is kind of confusing as he just says "bodies" in some of the announcement. They mentioned it last year but sounds like it's happening now. "Each of these bodies measure about 20" x 15" x 1.78" and are 3-5 pc bodies thickness sanded and ready for your body templates! Moisture content is approx 7-8%; These are ready to go after acclimating to your environment!! CNC users: These billets will fit most prebuilt jigs! These were made for a manufacturer in the US that rejected them for translucent finishes! Some of these are very worthy to trans finishes, bursts etc. " Who's our resident cnc guys?
Yes, I got it and took a cursory look. The site shows a pictures of rectangular body "blanks" but I didn't go any further once I saw that...
Ya I got it. Fwiw contact Dave about shipping if you want something. I saw $75 for usps priority also. UPS rates should be closer to $30 based on weight and size. Who knows, maybe usps is so high because their box sizes are wrong again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, I contacted him to clarify that I wasn't missing something. I think these blanks might be a little small for what I have in mind... a Firebird body.
Just a heads-up. I noticed they pulled all their inventory off their reverb store. Although they had been re-designing their site as of late, I also was seeing google/security warnings coming up more frequently. Well I was curious why they pulled their listings, and their site is completely down. Facebook is still up for now. I just reached out to see what's up. They also never finished uploading their body blank listings.. So stay tuned.
UPDATE: Dave got back to me and here's the low down. Dave and James Hood, are splitting as partners and restructuring the business identities. In order to make a clean re-start, they pulled the Reverb inventory down, and let the website expire (also because the SSL service expired prior and it wasn't worth renewing in the process of the changeover). Good news: Dave is planning to be working on restructuring a new website in the next couple weeks, and blasting through the process of getting the body blanks listed for sale. SO, stay tuned for more updates
@jimytheassassin Let him know there is interest here. Also, I have had trouble the last few times I have tried to buy things from their site that it would not calculate freight. I took this as a sign not to buy & walked away
Ya I did let him know that people on our forum were interested in the body blank listings. The shipping on the other hand is something that's never been smooth at Ubuy, and I hope this time around they are able to make it more fluid too. The policy regarding shipping has been amorphous and confusing, but at the same time negotiable. I usually contact dave directly for a sale when shipping should be combined on items and it doesn't self apply, or when shipping rates are astronomical (and is usually due to a shipping size error on their end). If the item is "one of a kind", I select the local pickup option, and then negotiate a shipping rate after (and a second paypal transaction for shipping is sent by ubuy). Anyways, lets keep our fingers crossed. But like i said, if shipping seems dumb expensive, then all you have to do is inquire if that's accurate or not. In my experience, Dave is going to give you a very fair shipping rate and option.
Just bought a 36watt chassis from them last week on the Reverb store. Arrived in typical ubuy packing, which was ok but not over packed if you know what i mean. I hope they get another site or 2 going, i wish early on i had bought more, some of that stuff was definitely a bargain.
I think hes a good guy and tries to give it straight on what hes selling. The truth is sometimes he doesn't have much info. He is a regular guy running a boutique guitar halfway house. He's a lot like us but with more stuff to sell so sometimes some of the details get missed.
Ya I saw those on Reverb too. They were about twice the cost and then some, what their previous blow-out pricing was. Still not bad deals on Reverb. I would like to think i spent my dollars wisely at Ubuy. I ended up doubling my amp collection with some primo picks, and couple fun builds. Part of me is still hoping this happens again, but with pedals next time
I bought a ton of stuff from Dave last year. I found him to be a straight-up guy. The website was always a complete mess, though, when it came time to calculate shipping.
