This is not a post to bash USPS, just a query to seek your advice.

    Facts:
24 Nov. Ordered a $500 item from a well-known NYC photo equipment vendor.
25 Nov. Vendor says shipped end of day, notifying me via email.
(USPS deal is 7-10 business days ship style)

My Informed Delivery (the USPS web interface) showed a pre-shipment label created same day, and still does as of now, 04 Dec, that is, the package does not show any movement!

-- Is there a chance the package may have gone astray, in the wrong hands?
-- should I just relax and allow the 10-day max on shipment - despite lack of activity?

BTW, I am in touch with cooperating vendor, says to allow the stated 10 days max, and assures me this will be made good, on one way or another.

Label created means they didn't ship it yet. USPS is not in posession of the item yet. What company? 1 or 2 are scammers and give more excuses than deliveries.

I wouldn't trust the USPS site to be anywhere close to accurate. I get delivery confirmations days later sometimes.

Relax is almost always the right answer. I live with a "whatif, yabutt, worst case scenario'er." Relax. It will get there or be covered by insurance or paypal or credit card.
We should all be aware of scammers and vet our purchases and some things we take chances on and buy locally when possible; but in the absence of that, worry doesn't help.

USPS tracking is horrendous. I have gotten items delivered when the tracking shows it to still be at the originating post office

There are 2 big ones one always has had a great shipping reputation , the other known for being a bit sloppy at times to put it nicely.Patience, could delayed getting to them and they haven't shipped and don't want to admit it or back up from holiday gift buyers. I tended to buy from one not the other when I ordered out of NYC . Both would make good just one took more time.

    Thanks for the comments.
    Yeah, patience is it.

I was not aware of the vendor #2 sloppiness.
That's what happens when you want to avoid Amazon!

I bought a Grestch from vendor #2, a couple of years ago, no problem then!

I could back out, but price was great.

That happened to my wife a number of times on orders from various businesses.
USUALLY, what happened was the vendor shipped it via a UPS/USPS linkup.
In other words UPS has the item and they hand it off to USPS at your local post office.
Until that time, USPS tracking will show they are not yet in possession of the item.
You don't get to follow the UPS part.

I've had stuff arrive from FL to AZ before it even updated after the initial label creation.

Update: actual package was scanned at NJ departure, ETA Monday.

Vendor late producing, or USPS late in scanning, we will never know.

BTW, in researching a bit, I found a likely general scenario: Amazon USPS being USPS biggest customer, its traffic has priority.

I have had instances where it was not accurate but far and away most of the time it works fine.
Probably the carrier picked it up and never scanned it so it still says label created.
Or, now with the holiday rush the system is backed up?

I just got 3 orders delivered between Tues. and yesterday, 1 from Tenn. to NJ (small amp parts), one from Philly (Gotoh Floyd!) , and one in state (Zip drive), all small packages, that were accurate.

The ones from China or Hong Kong are useless, but I only buy small parts, etc.
Just got some 25mm rubber cabinet feet that took a few weeks. But 10 for $3.50 (three. fiddy)
    is worth the wait.
