For your amusement I submit the following weird Van Halen related pics.

    Dave's security circa 1979.

    Minister Alex.

    WTF?!? This kid is real?

Do you think he right hand tapped this thing?

Don't think I'd want to be anywhere near Alex after he'd had a few and started swinging that katana around.

The fact that it looks like Red Bull and Pop Tarts set at the table is even weirder than Dave on roller skates in a bunny suit.

Andro Eddie. They really f*cked up the guitar.

Who is that on the left?

Valerie's smirk here is somehow creepier than all the previous photos combined.

    A classic of VH lore.

Is it true Dave stole his stage antics from Black Oak Arkansas?

I've heard that. Something to the effect that Black Oak Arkansas was in L.A. in early/mid 70s, Dave went to their shows, saw Jim Dandy Mangrum, and took a lot of the visual element from him.

Dave was probably at this show in 74.

Yeah, I see a relation there but they don't seem interchangeable. DLR ain't got no southern flavor IMO, and Jim is still a lot more masculine. But the swagger and attitude, yeah, I see where he got it from.

Stand on the shoulders of Giants if you want to see farther!

"Dave 2021 The Absolute Final Tour" and Jim Dandy Mangrum today are pretty close. :ROFLMAO:

    Lol!

Dandy is distinctly American and distinctly southern though. Whereas Roth has been quoted as saying something along the lines of, Van Halen has a European engine under the hood.

Of course, DLR always saw VH as more of a dance/party band than a rock band...

    :/

There are two reasons that truck should not be shiny.

    1. It's a Van Halen finish
    2. It's a truck

Shiny trucks should be an oxymoron. It's a work vehicle. By having a truck be shiny and clean, the statement it's making is "I'm worthless" rather than "I can handle a days work."

A shiny truck is the males equivalent of a Mom with 1 child driving around a 9 seater SUV. Could not be a bigger waste of equipment. Only, that should be more embarrassing for a man.

This qualifies as weird. Aerosmith, David Lee Roth, and Billy Joel. Running with the Piano Man while Walkin' the Dog.

I remember that truck from Sport Truck magazine I think it was. My dad had the same vintage C1500.

A 2wd short bed truck isn't really a truck anyway...

I'm not a fan of shortbeds, but in some cities I do understand parking a full cab w/ 8 ft bed is tough. Exception to every rule.

yes, but most people who drive a truck for work reasons aren't trying to parallel park to grab a latte or hit up a spin class...

most people treat 2wd short bed trucks as a car with a big trunk, often adding semi-useless tonneau covers that don't allow access to the bed anyway.

The only place I see them actually used for work is parts runners for car dealerships/mechanic shops and shady window glass repair outfits that prowl gas stations and automatic car washes.

A little Van Halen trivia for @toomanycats or others who'd like to play...

    1. What is a "later"?
    2. How about a "super later"?

A "Later" is a cocktail served at VH parties, made with fruit and a whole bunch of other stuff.

A "Super Later," IIRC, is a version of same, but much, more powerful. They went to 11 to give you that extra kick over the edge. Not for the faint of liver.

Given what I read in the various biographies, it is a miracle these guys ever played a show, let alone play a lot of them really well -- they were blasted all the time.

I remember entering to win that truck. I think a GM mechanic won it. It was just "prettied up."

    This one was Ed's truck:

    c41d2579e6676b747e431b5a62bb1dbe.jpg

It had a much more tasteful VH inspired paintjob and was equipped with an LT1 motor and a Vette rear end. I still don't like the rims, but who's to argue with Boyd? I like this one better.

And, to answer who wants a truck that isn't really a truck?

    I feckin do.

There are lots of old trucks still rolling around here that are really giving me GAS pains. I'd love to grab an old farm truck, rod it out and turn it into a lumber hauler - complete with the Neckbolt logo on the door in old school gas station lettering.

Latest stat is that 95% of all SUVs and 92% of all pickups are driven by a single driver and are rarely, if ever, used for actual work until they hit the used market. If you were born in 1950 you may still think of a truck as a work vehicle. Current drivers view them as testicular enhancements.
