Okay, I went back in that pawnshop today and the Hamer Explorer is now priced on sale at $100! I'm so temped to get this thing and either strip it down to wood or rattle can it some solid color. I may just have to go retrieve it in the morning.

Go for it man, $100 for a set neck explorer is pretty sweet plus you'd have a fun little weekend project.

Buy it and send it to me! I want it for that price!

I could never find stuff like that in San Antonio. Maybe I need to start taking weekly trips to SLC and Provo pawn shops, see what's up.

The employee said it has been marked down to $100 the whole week. Hopefully nobody will buy it for one more day.

for $100, that would be easy to strip. Get some Duplicolor lacquer from Autozone and spray it...

I would be down for getting something like that for $100 and refinishing it!

Bad news fellas. I was at the pawn shop at 9:00 this morning when the doors opened. Alas, the Hamer is gone. Guy behind the counter said some dude came in after I left and grabbed it. I'm feeling like a dumbass.

Trying to rationalize it by remembering the issues it had, but still, I kinda wish I had it now.

Often it is better to not have the guitar and wish you had bought it than to buy the guitar and wish you hadn’t.

Just remember in a few weeks, some poor sap will be partway through a nightmare refinish job cursing himself for throwing more good money and time after bad trying to salvage that mess. At least you can believe that. There is little chance you will be proven wrong! :D

The Korean Hamers I've worked on were very well built. As for that one... I agree, the paint job is UGLY. I'd have no problem walking away from it, but then I don't like pointy guitars.

It's okay. My mantra is that, if its not meant to be yours, it's not. I have let a lot of guitars slip, but I end up with the best!

I think you probably hit the nail on the head with this. I've got such a backlog of guitars that need attention, I really don't need another project cued up in line. If I had really wanted it, I would have popped on it at $100. Some instinct held me back and I should trust that gut feeling.

I actually didn't like that the hardware didn't match (tuners chrome and bridge/tailpiece black). The pups were Duncan Designed, which though not necessarily bad, aren't the best either.

Some guys might say, "so you've got to do a refinish, buy some hardware, and possibly pickups" . . . but those guys probably aren't fully aware of my track record. I'm used to buying guitars that are pretty much good to go, that have been upgraded, and that are priced cheap. I've gotten kinda spoiled like that.
