I have some personal experience with this speaker. It's a bit on the bright side and I do not recommend it for the DSL40C although some may like it. It's much better then the rocket 50, but falls short of other offerings, IMO.
This may really help a dark sounding amp.
$38 shipped. None in stock, but due in soon.

Personally never owned one. It seems close to a V30 to me. I like the clips of it.

WTH, I'll give it a try. A friend of mine that's in a semi-pro touring band recommended them.
Figure.....How bad could they be? LOL

Question, how many hours was it broken in for? I'm experimenting with speaker dope right now, Weldwood contact cement and acetone, applied lightly in thin coats. Supposed to take some brightness away. Also reading on breaking in speakers with a variac.

I'm not saying that this speaker will not improve some over time. However check opinions on the net. It's not a Cadillac by any means, but it will work well in some instances.

They are cheap. Buy one. Run the fuck out of it. Who knows...

I bet they would sound fairly nice in a big 2x12.

Ordered 2, for that price can't go wrong. I have a 2/12 open back cabinet going to build a bluesbreaker in it.

@Perfect Stranger the V-Type is what the new DSL40CR comes with from the factory and the comments have been positive from what I've read. The Bassbreaker 15 I had for a while also came with a V-Type and I thought it sounded great. I've thought about buying one for the new DSL.

I do like my Celestion Creamback 65 and Heritage G12H (55) a lot.

Thing is with speakers...if you like them that is all that matters. A lot of fan bois out there shouting about their fav speaker does not always translate in to a good sonic experience for another. I read a lot of folks dumping on the Celestian 70-80's big time but they sounded OK in my 2x12. Not great but good.

Cancelled my order yesterday for 2x. I sent an email and asked to cancel. Lady got back to me saying "they are arriving June 14th and we will ship the 17th" Well i told her to cancel since i had no update, no estimate, nothing. I don't do business with a company that says nothing about your order in over 3 weeks.

I almost bought a 12" WGS Green Beret yesterday but went home and listened to the Emi GB128 again.

Creambacks sound great and the V-types do too.

Emi GB12 is a great speaker and more than less sounds about the same as the Private Jack. I like the Private Jack just a bit more, but I could not tell them apart in a blind sound taste test. I have had both at the same time. I still own Governor, Red Fang and Private Jack. The Gov and the Jack are going away next week as they have just sold.

My fav internet posts on amps are when folks order their holy grail speaker to replace in a new amp before it even arrives. The new one hasn't even broken in. I give a lot of manufacturers more credit for their picks to go with a certain amp. I know budgets are an issue but they aren't going to knowingly put a piece of crap speaker in their amps...they wouldn't sell. Oh well...

Scumback speakers get a very good rep. He breaks in each speaker for 18-24 hours, on a variac, that replicates playing on stage at 30-40 watts for 40-50 hours. Webers also the same rep and are broken in. I figure they kind of know what they are doing.

Having worked at Altec Lansing, i personally know engineers who would break in speakers and then measure all the Thiele and Small parameters again. There was always a change in the characteristics and response.
