This video of David Lee Roth on stage in Vegas on Wednesday is so bad that I almost think that his performance could be intentionally bad. Dave is no dummy, but could he possibly be this delusional? Maybe Dave actually has contempt for his fans and is doing it on purpose as a joke while he laughs all the way to the bank. The recent Vince Neil "Kickstart My Heart" lyric subtitle video sure got a lot of attention. As the saying goes, "Love me or hate me but don't ignore me." Maybe Dave is being this bad on purpose to get attention. I mean, c'mon, he sings the second verse first and most of the words are unintelligible. He's actually not even singing. Michael Anthony's pre-recorded backup vocals can be heard. WTF?

Granted, it is cell phone video and monitor heavy, but I can't see how it can be any good...and that stupid shit eating grin.

I can't believe Gene Simmons approves of this.

Dave has lost "IT" in many ways, heck he'd get booed off the local karaoke circuit in these parts

I don't even need to see it. I already know. All you have to do is see the Jimmy Kimmel Van Halen performance from several years ago, or even hear that VH live album. I think the guy is delusional. You gotta remember that when someone gets to this level in the rock industry, it would be easy to get to be somewhat delusional......especially for someone with Dave's enormous ego to begin with. Add to that the possibility of countless "friends" giving him all the free cocaine he wants, and the recipe is there for the trainwreck he is.

The "what happens in vegas....stays in vegas" rule has never been more applicable. -20 HP for TMC and RMF for breaking the code.

It's not surprising though, his performances have been on that level for years now. But as you say, people will pay for just about anything these days so more power to him for making a buck while he can.

This should not be a surprise to anyone who has hearsd the "Live from the Tokyo Dome " album. Heck, he wasn't singing very well when I saw them back in 2012. Still my favourite concert though.

To be blunt, Mike Starr/Ralph Saenz sounds more like Dave than Dave does.

Best as I can decipher this seems to be what he's saying on this first verse and chorus:

    IMYO
Damn I didn't ask for my mission
    Dish in my chantzo fly
Bebe enough ain't enough for yaaa
    Kiss it's time to fly
    That's what you fart
Blue white murder in a sci-fi dreyyyyyha
    Change the sabbath
    Unshave me baby

His voice is shot, he is way to old for the high energy dancing kicking jumping thing, so the only thing he has left is his “I am so cool” ego and “I am always having fun” life of the party schtick. What else do you expect? Would you pay to go see a 65 year old pole dancer? No matter how good she was when young, some acts simply don’t translate to old age!

Exactly. Because one looks like they are trying too hard.

Another thought: this probably doesn't come off nearly as well as it would with Ed, Al and Wolf (or Mikey!) behind him. That kind of musical power counts for a fair bit.

His band was singing in key, and he wasnt. Delusional sounds right. He needed to practice a lot, with a voice coach, and give up the theatrics.
He'd do better to wear a business suit, and just sing, after having spent months in practice and critique. Let some young chick dancers jump around on either side. Come up with new songs, sing some other's covers, etc.
But he is probably too much of a dick now to get down into actually creative singing.

I was just too old and uninterested in the style to ever follow VH when they were happening. Although I can enjoy some of the music in retrospect.

What makes you guys think he doesn’t know? Dave is actually in a very smart individual. I am sure he knows he can’t sing anymore, and he knows people will pay to see him anyway.

What should he do then? Get a job doing what? Bills to pay and if someone's willing to pay sizable sums to stand up on stage and mumble then screw it I'm gonna stand up on stage and mumble.
