I just looked at the current WC bracket standings.

    Interesting.

    Your predictions?

Your favorites, even with historically low chances?

    What's a World Cup?

I was at City of Hope waiting for a patient to complete radiation treatment. Watched the Mexico game (they lost). Since most of the waiting room had been rooting for them, they were all depressed. Decided I needed a breakfast burrito, went to my favorite greasy spot, and the cook was despondent. "I didn't get to watch the game, but they lost. I had a bottle of tequila I was going to use to celebrate if they won, but no tequila for me tonight..." And later I found out that because Germany had lost, Mexico was resurrected?

I have no idea how the brackets work or who's still around, but it's definitely affecting LA. If Mexico should happen to win, I think the best thing to do will be to pull the hatch over and hunker down for a couple of days; it could get crazy.

    I'll take the underdog Swiss.

<how the brackets work or who's still around>

Enter "world cup" in the Google Machine and you get the standings. there should be a menu for "brackets"

Gonna look that up. Maybe the entire world is onto something with this soccer thing. I have a hard time watching anything that doesn't cut to a commercial every four minutes.

DAMN FLY! Fucker's been buzzing me and the dog all evening. I'm wearing bug spray that's illegal in the US (ha) but it must have super immunity to Deet.

    There are 32 teams
8 groups, 4 teams each (group)
Top 2 of each group advance to the next round
    Win=3 points. Draw-=1 point. Lose=0 points.

    (Direct elimination round)
    Group A - 1st place vs Group B 2nd place
    Group A - 2nd place vs Group B 1st place...
so on and so forth up to group H
Until there are 8 teams, then 4, then the last 2 play the championship match.

Hoping for Argentina to win, doubt it though. Then my second and third choices are Uruguay and Croatia. (Seem very solid so far)

I guess I'll just root for Messi...or maybe just sit and watch Mark_Morton's avatar for another 20 minutes.

It'd be a great sport if they just cut the field size in half. As it is now, it's basically like watching chess. Yes it's strategic and takes a lot of effort, but that doesn't make it fun to watch.

I love it when the SAP tries to keep up with the Telemundo (spanish) commentators. In Spanish.

Especially when someone nails a goal.

Belgium for the win. But they'll need to get past Brazil in the quarter final.
On the other side I expect Croatia will come through.

So Belgium vs Croatia in the final with Belgium winning.

Bad luck there. That was the worst game of the tournament so far and the only scoreless draw in the whole tournament. Overall this has been an exciting and entertaining tournament compared to previous world cups. Now that it's in the knockout stages I expect it'll only get better.

..but that said, the actual final is usually a cagey affair. The best matches are usually the quarter and semi-finals.

My WC prediction: Bode Miller comes out of retirement and cleans house in the speed events. I wish I was current on the soccer WC, but I havent seen nor paid attention, and I love watching good soccer.

I have early teenage memories of the heyday of British football. Bobby_____ era?

Look at the BBC predictions with analysis for the next round.
