OK, back to the AL double cutaway. I heard from Kurt this morning regarding this one. The mockups he referenced are below, original 3010SE is the top one:

    "John,
Some number of emails ago you had suggested a double cut Agile 3010SE version - with horns that look like the Harm 3 horns from years ago - We did 2 mock ups - Type A is horns like the existing 3010SE - but on both sides - Type B are horns that are used in the Harm 3 model you referenced - comments?"

It's appears a little lifeless, just looking at a plan, but that bottom one, with what I assume are the Harm Horns, is pretty appealing.

Yes, I told Kurt I really liked the bottom one but that I'd post both here to get more opinions...

Not sure I'm going to be in the market for one , so you can downplay my input. I'd be more likely to but the harm horned one , better proportions.

    Bottom one,
    neck through please!
If no neck through, add a maple cap option.
    MOP inlays
Finish where I can see the wood, but flame not necessary (plain/quilt/spalted/birds eye/anything other than the way overdone flame tops)

I would not get one but my opinion is that the bottom one is the most appealing

Definitely the bottom one. Spec it like a current 3100mcc or 3200mcc (or some of each!), and you have a unique product. You might want a pickup selector switch though :)

Almost any finish but CSB or opaque black. My current favorites are tobacco flame, blue quilt, or wine red spalt.

I don't know about the maple cap and the neck-through on any initial run but I agree wholeheartedly on the MOP and the overdone flame tops. I mentioned your neck-through previously to Kurt as a possible option (as well as MOP inlays and some different finishes) and will ask about the maple cap if/when the project looks like it will actually go forward. However, I'm pretty sure based on a number of things that the 3010SEs and the 3100.3200MCCs come from different sources so I don't know if the 3010SE factory can do neck-throughs and maple caps.

As it stands, if we can get the first lot done using the actual lower body shape with the current 3010SE specs but with MOP inlays and some different finishes, I'll be thrilled.

My strategy was to try to initially get something that sold out quickly thus building up a little "street cred" for future ideas/projects. To that end and based on current pricing, something that used the 3010SE specs could be listed for probably $75-$175 less than anything with 3100/3200/MCC specs...

One more for #3 like we had mocked up.

Honestly surprised that the drawings got matched to with our mock picture considering the other outcome.

I think a 3200 type ergonomic neck join would be great but understand to try and keep costs down. Although shipping to Hawaii is over $100 (plus required hard case), considering I was involved in this one I'd buy it.

Maybe he learned from the AD-2250 experience...:)

I will definitely suggest to him that if the 3010SE version works out, he strongly consider carrying it over to the 3100/3200MCC models...

I would pay $200+ more. Heck, I would pay more than a standard 3200.

I will almost definitely pass on a 3010se spec guitar. Too much competition in that price/quality space already and too close to my older AL3000 to generate GAS.

I should probably just get a 3200, but even that isn’t different enough to get me to pull the trigger. A 3200 style double cut with the unique Harm horns would get me to jump on a preorder.

The bottom one is cool, looks like a more symmetrical Harm. For some reason I quite like the short horned one of the bunch.

Not much in that price range with that body style and as a side note, the 3010SE has a 1 11/16" nut (3000s have a 1 5/8" one) and the 3010SE has the full thickness body (current 3100/3200MCCs are around 1 3/4")...

Al-3010's are selling at $385, while there is an advanced order Al-3100mcc for $425 (presumably the new normal price). At a $40 difference, the 3100mcc offer much better value, and would probably sell better too. Even at $75-175.
Like @Chocol8, I would only consider the 3100 or 3200.
Abalone is a deal breaker. A maple cap, coil splits, compound radius are major boons. Thinner body is a actually an advantage in my mind.

I'll pass that observation on to Kurt and let him decide. He should know which would be more marketable. Hell, what do I know about selling guitars? I only seem to be able to buy them...:)
