Would you consider buying an Agile AL series double cutaway?

  1. Yes, I'd be interested in one...

  2. Umm, I don't think so...

What about the backs and sides? Same color as the top or something else? I know a lot here like a natural or mahogany...

That depends on the top finish. I can’t think of too many Agiles where the back was a problem.

That said, lighter finishes, natural, spalted bird etc. the back should typically be mahogany or some form of brown/natural. There will need to be some contrast because the woods are different. Some of the deeper semi-trans colors, and either mahogany/brown/natural or matching color will work. Mainly because the dark colors dominate the difference between the maple and mahogany woods.

I always prefer light back mahog on any bound mahogany guitar of any colour, personally. Except maybe cherryburst...

    Annnnnnnd silverburst, (self correcting)

Check out the very first post in this thread, there are pics of Pat Travers and his Custom shop DC LP and a Yamaha SG with CSB bursts...

I could go for that if it has P90s and the same PG... And is real TV Yellow, but that's probably not going to happen to our satisfaction. Vintage Sunburst would be my second choice.

Also, any preferences as to where the toggle switch is located?

There should still be room for it on the upper horn but with a poker chip it might be a little crowded. At least that way, whatever template is used for the control and switch cavity (and wiring specs) on the 3100MCC/3200MCC can be used. If it gets moved down to near the controls like an AD-2200 Reissue/AD-2300 (or SG), then that's something else that has to be redesigned.

OTOH, I guess they could use the design for the AD-2200 Reissue/AD-2300 for that and with everything in one cavity and no toggle switch cavity to cut out and rout, perhaps that would offset any increase in cost. I think also aesthetically, it might look better to have the toggle down by the controls...

Okay. If it has 3200 specs. I will get one!

I really wish he would do some plain tops.

I like the tocacco sunburst, or the OLD Rootbeer finish

That would be my preference. Looks better, better position to use while playing, easier to rewire, more flexible for alternate wiring.

I heard from Kurt this morning regarding the changes necessary for a DC 3200:

"From the top or front, I don't think it would necessitate a change in shape at all."

For good measure, I sent a couple picks of an old Ibanez Artist 2700 neck-through to show that it doesn't necessarily have to affect the appearance of the front or sides:

    Ibanez Artist 2700 back.jpg Ibanez Artist 2700 front.jpg

I also asked him about whether the toggle switch location would affect the cost and if it was possible, to provide us with a list of AL tops and finishes that have been his best sellers and which the current factory can produce...

Thanks for all your efforts! I just hope that picture doesn’t give him any ideas on strap stud location.

After looking at that Ibanez, can we also ask for a bunch of extra pots and switches? That thing doesn’t have enough which means the typical Agile is severely lacking. Reminds me of a stripped down Jerry Garcia guitar with out the middle pickup and associated pots and switches. Oooh, that reminds me, can we also get an on-board-effects-loop with a buffer and dual TRS jacks? And the middle pickup of course. :D

What, you think Kurt came into town on a load of melons? He knows he has to keep up with the times. Of course it will have all that good stuff. And more...
